I'm pretty sure Progman will let you turn the halos on as running lights, but that's about it.
Don't think you can select fogs or anything.
This thread says DIS will do it, also.

I just bought this as well. Are you still liking it? Will be looking forward to the install.

Works as advertized. DIS will give you more accurate info on your O2 sensor problem than a generic OBD-II scanner.

Stickmon I may contact you during install but I'm pretty computer savvy so I hope the install won't be bad.

Hey stickmon, I've got al the software extracted but I'm trying to get the USB port installed. I changed the USB Serial port to Com 1 but I still get an error "This device cannot start (code 10)" Any ideas?

Is it set for 9600, 8, N, 1?
I didn't use the supplied USB serial driver. I already had a USB-serial cable and driver for my Bearcat scanner, so when I plugged in the ODB cable it worked right away.

Try a different com port? I think the com port is the first line in obd.ini:

[OBD]
Port=Com1
Hardware=USB
RETRY=ON

I'm running on Win7 64-bit.
Many things will work, but not NCS Expert.
INPA, Progman/SSS, and DIS work.

I got NCS to run in an XP Virtual Machine, but it can't find the serial port.
Too many layers.

I have to buy the wife a new laptop one of these days so I can take her current XP one and make it a dedicated diag laptop.

According to Google, Code 10 is a driver issue.

Just make sure the com port is set to the same number in XP as it is in the native OS.

XP Virtual Machine is very slow. If you can, use a VMWare machine. I KNOW that works.

I wonder if Parallels is my problem. Maybe I should switch to VMWare. I'm gonna try and do a little bit more configuring to see if I can get it to work with what I've got.

This driver issue is blowing my mind right now. Installed a VM of Windows XP. Finally got the hard drive space worked out where I could get the software on. Followed the video and the device manager shows that the USB Serial Port (Com1) is connected.

When I go to the software launcher I still get the error "Diagnostic Cable Drivers have not been detected"

I just don't understand how it can be showing as working in the device manager but not working whenever I click the software launcher. I did follow the video on how to install the drivers.

Are you doing this on a Mac?

I can't remember the exact error I had, but I didn't get NCSExpert to find the cable in "Windows on Windows", running XP in a VM under Win7. I'll admit I didn't try very hard. My ADD kicked in.

I ran INPA/Progman/DIS native in Win7 (well Progman and DIS in the supplied hacked VMWare) without problem.

I was going to suggest uninstalling the driver that came with it, disconnecting it, plugging it back in and see if Windows would detect new hardware and find a driver in the Microsoft database.
The cable would appear to be pretty generic, since I used it successfully with a driver that came from and entirely different USB to RS232 cable.

Have the cable connected to the USB port when you start to install the software, not just the driver. Also, physically label the USB port 'BMW' or some such thing so you don't forget which port is now locked to the BMW software. This is the only physical USB port that will now work with the cable now.

Go to device manager and make sure the USB driver for the cable is set to the same COM port as the OS and VM. Very important.

Before I bought the BMTechinc package, I did a full install on Win7 (64) and everything works except NCSExpert, as expected. Then did another full install under XP in the VM. Now it ALL works under XP in the VM.

Ship killer let me ask you this just to verify we're on the same page. I extracted the two files. Installed the drivers for the usb, and then hit the launcher icon and thats when I get the errors. Just making sure those are the basic steps. I haven't installed this kind of software in a long time so please forgive me.

Your installation is different than the ones I had downloaded off of the internet.

There seems to be several different installs that people have come up with. That's the reason I like the BMTechnic package. It just works. Eight clicks and you are done. Of course, if you are running on a MAC, then all bets are off.
