window regulator removal

I just bought a 03 Z4 knowing the passenger window regulator needed to be replaced. I've got the window out and most of the parts to the regulator lose but how the hell do you get the rail that's riveted in out for replacement. I've searched the board and can't find any info.

so, i've never opened up the door and have no familiarity with the part you're talking about. that being said, you can remove almost any rivet by drilling through the center of it. Use a drill bit slightly larger than the size of the hole in the rivet.

Normally that would do it but there is no room for a drill. I went out this morning so I could look at it during the daylight and found the two tabs at the bottom of the door panel that revealed the two nuts that hold it in place.

^Glad that you figured it out.

FWIW, if you will be doing a lot of your own work its worth picking up a copy of the TIS manual.
There's usually lots of postings on ebay

I'll have to get one. I picked the car up for $3500. It runs and shifts perfect but has problems like the window regulator, drivers door has to open from inside and the top didn't work but I got it. Also needs paint on the hood but I can do everything except that and still not have a lot invested in it.

Thanks for the tip and thank you Shipkiller for the email. The manual release handle was pulled and stuck in the bypass position. The top works like a champ now.
