Drilled Rotors w/ Akebono Pads E85

Recently installed a set of drilled rotors and Akebono pads from Tire Rack. I've had this set up for about a couple months now and it has worked great for me. Braking performance/power is a bit tighter than before, absolutely no noise and there is almost no brake dust on my wheels! It also compliments the wheels quite well. Overall, a great brake combo for a decent price.

Rotors and pads.

No I just did the front brakes. I'll do the rear before summer. I still got some padding left. It was about $160 for the rotors and $60 for the pads.

Stoptech pads are also really popular and very reasonably priced.

Interesting. On my 2006 Z4 M Roadster with stock drilled rotors the direction or the rotors is opposite to yours. In other words the arc of the holes starts from the inside and goes to the outside. On yours the arc goes from the outside to the inside. It looks to me like you put them on backwards, i.e., the right rotor on the left side and vice versa. Is it supposed to be like that?

Yes, it's correct. My buddy is a tech at Mercedes (that's where I got it done). The rotors came with a "R" and a "L" sticker on them so I'm pretty certain that the install was done correctly.

Also, the hole arc on the ECS rotors is opposite that of the OEM rotors.

The difference between the oem and akebono pads Isn't huge but it is noticeable. After you break them in, you will notice a bit more of a bite/ grab when braking. I'll let you know how the rears feel after I install them tomorrow. The best thing about these pads is that there's absolutely no brake dust! And no noise. I'm happy with them so far.

Thanks for sharing! Looks great! Definitely doing this once I need new rotors and/or pads.

Love the Akebonos - nice quality, decent braking for road use, and no crud on the rims. I'm going to replace the pads and paint the calipers on my TT in the next month - really looking forward to no longer having to deal with the black crud on those rims.
