Problem: Engine service soon + rough idle + sounds like lawnmotor?
Hello all:
I have a 2004 3.0i 6sp with 48000 miles. I am currently attending law school in MA and am 7 hrs away from my Z. I store it in my dads garage since I have no access to one here. This morning I get an email from my father saying "Your BMW is showing an engine service soon sign. Also the idling is rough. Sounds like a single piston engine." I have no engine mods to the Z other than a drop in K&N air filter. I take great care of the car and maintain it religiously. I wish i could see the car in person and wont get to see it till Winter break on the 19th. We always go to a local guy's shop ( Smeltz in Lewisburg PA) who works on nothing but euro cars (BMW, Benz, Audi etc..). Although he has never seen the Z yet. The car is due in for a look sometime next week. Before taking the car in are there any ideas what could be causing a problem? Thanks for your help. Steven |

Check for codes eiither at your dealer or an autozone. Sounds like a misfire, could be a bad coil pack or just bad fuel at your last fillup.
