Z4M Custom Exhaust

I received word today that my car received its full exhaust today. My car was deposited for four weeks getting the system designed and tested. I haven't had the chance to listen to it yet, but from all accounts it's spectacular and it's street legal. The exhaust is attached to a set of Evosport headers. So far, the engine light has not illuminated, but I expect it to eventually re-appear since the Kellener-Sport ECU tuning does extinguish the engine light.

Until I return to Germany in December to make more video and evaluate the performance, here are a few pictures.

I like it; however, I would have removed the secondary cats as well.

Those are aftermarket cats and they're probably needed to keep emissions in check. With aftermarket headers, there are no cats there...

Yup...but I run no cats....only need to pass emissions once every two years....so I will just bolt them back into position (for an hour or two)...but I have the ESS tune with the O2 sensors turned OFF.

Some states like California are very aggressive with prosecuting this type of thing, even to the extent of going after the vehicle owner criminally. You also take a chance of getting caught in a "random" roadside inspection by the CHP. The risk comes down to where you live and how brave/foolish you are.

It's not possible to get away with an inspection here without a set of cats. We also have an audible limit of 95 db's at 2/3 maximum engine rpm as well.

What kind of cats are those? Did the o2 sensor bungs come like that or was it custom welded on?

It was custom welded. This is a trick to take the sensor out of the direct flow of the exhaust gasses in order to lower the readings and hopefully alleviate a SES light. Only time will tell if it works.

Yes, but I doubt they'll catch me at the track.

You will have to excuse me for not getting back with detailed questions until I return to Germany. I'm presently out of the country until the first week of December. Once I get the car back, I'll make some videos, provide some impressions and answer questions.

Update

I have had the opportunity to drive the car a while now. With with the aftermarket headers installed and placement of the lamda probes, I now have no SES light! The cluster is now completely clear!

It's not possible to do and still keep the car as a street car. The cats are 100 cell cats and relatively thin.

Do you mean the interior of the cats? No, but I can confirm they are 100 cell cats. The exhaust manufacturer placed the probes post cats at an angle to further remove them from the exhaust stream.

No CEL(SES) light! The DME apparently likes what it is seeing.

It was cold, but the snow melted and I thought I would take her out for a spin.
