Changing Engine Oil at dealer

They told me the price is $267
but I think it's little high?
Is there any dealer with lower price?
Im in Socal(OC)

Wow, are you sure that was only for a oil change? I paid 108.64 for a complete oil/filter change....

The stuff to do the change is about $90 at Tischer. You figure it is marked up at the dealer so about $130 for parts. Plus they will probably bill an hour of labor "book time" at $120/hr. Yeah $250 sounds about right to me. Not that I think it is reasonable, but seems about par.

$108 seems like a steal if they really used the 10w-60 M oil.

I'd like to know where, in the Seattle area, you get your S54 engine oil/filter change done for $108.64. That's a steal. I do my own oil changes now but at that price I'll drive to your shop in Federal Way.

Northwest BMW (aka BMW Tacoma/Fife) was where I went. I ended up buying a couple "liters" of oil and the filter, and total it came out to around $80-90 (i'll look for the receipt). I don't know if the oil change itself was discounted, but the oil I bought afterwards was with a BMWCCA card...

*note: I went to NW BMW through a recommendation from another bmwcca/z4mc owner who had his oil changed for the same amount as i did.

although the oil itself was $17 qt and wee need 6 of those.

I've had 'reputable' BMW dealers overfill the engine oil before, twice in fact.
The S54 takes 5.8 US quarts/5.5 liters - NOT six quarts or 6L. Also cost me ~$240.00

I suspect they gave my car to some junior tech when it was brought in for "just an oil change".

I have taken to checking the dipstick level before I leave the dealership.

It's a drag to have to micro-manage supposedly competent mechanics, but their past bad results have demonstrated the need for such. My mantra now with dealers is "Trust [a little] but Verify [often]".

If your S54 powered Bimmer is still under factory warranty why would you use Motul oil rather than the less expensive BMW approved Castrol TWS?

Wow umm, you probably got a 5w-30 change... seriously need to check on that.

I bought the castrol from the dealership for an interservice change and the oil itself I think came out to around $100. Brought it to an indy shop to have everything changed for another $40.

I took it back and made them remove about a whole liter. They weren't happy about it, but they couldn't really say much when I showed them the support bulletin stating that overfilling the S54 risks damaging the engine. I think it happens so commonly because the S54 takes less oil then other BMW I6 motors (i.e. M54, N52) I think those take 6.5 qts IIRC, so the mechanics are used to grabbing 7 bottles of oil for each oil change of a 6 cylinder car...

go and get synthetic oil from bmw parts. find regular oil change service shop, give them 20$ for oil change and thats it. Thats what i do in NY.
