Depreciation on Mcoupes

Does anyone know a way to find out historical information on pricing over the years on Mcoupes?

We have what they went for new and what they are going for used now, but I think it would be interesting to see the pattern in between.

So for example what did a low mileage 2007 mcoupe sell for in 2009?
Or what did a 2006 M coupe sell for in 2010?

Excessive number of off lease cars+recession= <20K mile M Coupes going for $28-32K up until last year. If you bought a low miles coupe in 2009-2011 for $30K, you could probably sell for $33-35K now.

Bought my 2008 with 7600 miles in 2010 for $31,800

If I were to sell now(17K Miles) I would ask $38000

In late 2009, i bought my 2007 Mcoupe, one owner, fully loaded (except extended leather) with 18k miles for $30.5K.
Our cars seemed to go up a bit lately (especially for those more desireable color combo) but i have seen others having hard times unload theirs.
By the way, there is another the thread where some people said that they would not let their cars go for less than $45k (Dreamers) I would not hesistate to sell my if someone offer $32k-$34k.

And I wouldn't hesitate to sell mine for 50K if someone offered.. The point of the thread was to tap into just how much our cars are worth to us.. Obviously, if I grew tired of the car and wanted to sell it, i would not advertise it for 50k.. However, that is what it is worth to me currently..

I have watched this very closely myself the past 18-24 months and actually plotted and graphed dozens of E86m specimens (I have nothing better to do with myself). Indeed prices sorta bottomed out when the 'wave' of '07 leases came off around late 2010, and indeed prices seem to be about 10-15% higher now than back then. the prices stated on this entire thread are excellent points of reference. I could write on for an hour about this but wont bore you all.

Maybe we should start a thread to ask for "acquired date and price"?
I understand what you meant about us guys having and how crazy/passionate about our cars but i could probably find a hand full of cars in the $45-$50k range which are better than our cars (IMHO)

That would be ideal but there are so many factors that alter the price. This is what I think happened with the coupes.

as long a big news story doesn't come out about insider trading or hiding bad sales forecasts, the price should remain steady

I think the graph is close except for in '07/'06. Most cars initially sat on the lot until the trunk money was introduced, and then they started to sell, so I'd put the initial value at closer to $45K versus $53K-$57K.

Also interesting to compare how the Si coupes are holding their value as compared to the M coupes.

I started looking for an SI coupe back in 07 and found a silver one for $35000 US with only 8000 miles at that time.

Assuming relatively low mileage that Coupe was still probably be worth 27-28 K US on the market now.

So it would appear that the Coupes as a whole are depreciating pretty slowly.

I bought my 2007 SI with 15000 miles for $33500 CDN back in March 2009 and at the time low mileage 2007 M coupes were going for about $40-43K CDN.

On the market today My SI with 30000 miles is probably worth about 27-28k CDN.
An M coupe with similar mileage is probably worth about 32-33 K.

So this also seems to affirm depreciation rates for the M and non-M are similar.

I bought mine with every single option, 15000 miles factory warranty for 2 years in 2010 for 27,000. Needless to say my car has appreciated. I think once all the off lease/recession sellers die off the value will start to go up or level off

Sooo, I debated this heavily a few months ago, as I was going to create a thread dedicated to price transparency that basically reported actual transactions (keeping buyers and sellers anonymous) and listed certain details about the car. I decided that this would actually hurt the value of our cars on the secondary market rather than help it, as increased transparency will remove the mystique about where they actually trade and add ammo to potential buyers who believe ALL cars should depreciate no matter what.

An associate of mine just bought an '06 with 8,000 miles on it, and I had given him my 2 cents regarding the market for the MZ4 Coupe.

The problem with trying to buy this vehicle is, there's only 1,7xx of them around in North America. The problem with trying to sell this vehicle is, there's only so many people who wants this car and those who want it, probably already has it.

So the limited numbers of cars available on the market has artificially kept the value inflated. In the mean time, it's darn near impossible for any seller to attract a buyer because, well, there just isn't that many of them around either. Let's face it. Practical this car is not, especially not compared to other offerings out there. The E46 M3 is significantly cheaper (an '05/06 in good shape and low mileage probably goes for $24,000 tops) and offers 2 more seats, a real trunk, and the same or near same performance AND SMG to boot. If you're looking for 2 seaters, Cayman Ses are in the same price range, easier to find, arguably sexier, and frankly...A better performer (in the right hands).

The end result is, these cars are only sold to the people who are looking specifically for an MZ4 Coupe, and these guys are far more willing to pay a premium for the car, therefore the prices are inflated, while people trying to sell cars tend to have trouble moving them because, well, the only ones interested are ones that are looking to buy this specific car, and they are few and far between.
