Now I am a little late to this party, but I want to pass on my condolences. This really sucks. I hate parking my ///M anywhere except in my garage. And when I do have to I park as far away from anything and any one and then walk. So, I know how you must feel.
On the other hand, it is somewhat freeing to say screw it, and just drive the hell out of it now without having to worry about it! |

I remember joking on z4um how I was going to start carrying pilons in my trunk to put around my Zed whenever I parked. I'm starting to seriously consider it..... |

I bought my first BMW in 1999 (a 328i) and parked it in a parking lot at the airport when it was 3 weeks old. When I returned from my trip at 1 AM I found it had a HUGE Dent in the drivers door. Turned out the parking lot shuttle bus had backed into it. It was parked on the END of an isle because I thought it would be one less side likely to have someone open their door into it. Live and learn....
BTW - I just traded that car in after 8 years for a brand new 328i. No dents yet, but it is coming up on three weeks old |

It's to demonstrate how quickly it comes out of the back of the car and in general its effectiveness in being practically unavoidable to run over. It's better to flatten more then one tire at once as it allows the vehicle to stay in better control as it comes to a stop. It also stops the vehicle quicker.
Also, it's not as dramatic as TV and movies would have you believe. Just like when you watch a show where doctors are using paddles to attempt to shock someone's heart back into a rhythm, and the body jumps and the actors' back arches . The fact of the matter is, they hardly move at all. Anyway, it was supposed to be funny. |

been there
takedown,
I am truly sorry for the damage done. I want to let you know that I have been in a similar situation. I was involved in an accident--I lost control of the car while driving 30mph on the freeway during a snow storm. The worse part of it is that it happened on the day of the purchace of the vehicle, so I was devastated. Anyways, I hit a pole and my left front bumper was cracked... just like yours... you really won't know if there are other damage to the car until the collision experts open the bumper and check it out. In my case, it turns out that I had to replace the xenon headlights too... so it cost $2000 out of the pocket for me... so I went for the $1000 insurance deductible. Don't worry... your Z will be good as new in no time |

Okay, here are the pics of my repair. I've posted the before & after for comparison. It took about 4 hours to repair so I picked the car up same day. Great place, great service manager, very fair prices. Half of the cost was labour for taking the bumper off and putting it back on again.
Remove/reinstall bumper, realign headlight, replace bracket attaching bumper to fender, and smooth out dent in bumper: $280. BEFORE AFTER BEFORE AFTER The only thing left are a couple of small scratches in the front of the bumper that you can't really see unless you look closely with a bright light. Not worth it for me to repaint the whole bumper given that it's not really noticeable unless you look for it, and there's no risk of rust there. We'll just count them as Zed's battle scars! If anyone is in the Hamilton area, I recommend Dundas Valley Collision highly! Alex Szabo was awesome! |
