not that this may matter, but I read somewhere that the Audi R8 was one of the most reliable "Exotic's" out their other than Porsche, also the parts are also much cheaper to replace when that time comes as it shares much with Audi road cars, for instance the wheel bearings are the same for the A6 and R8 so when the time comes for normal wear and tear replacement parts it won’t break the bank as it where.....

it’s a car you can drive everyday and not kill you when you need to get something replaced, until the clutch goes, there was a new V10 in the shop the other day, the guy bought it and didn’t know how to drive a stick and toasted the clutch after 3K miles, 10K to fix, dealer actually decided to pay for the fix this time.......crazy !

oh well......

I think when you see an R8 in person it looks fantastic.... reminds me of the predator mask .....

the ford GT will continue to appreciate and get more expensive as they don’t make them anymore, and there are so few and it had a great history behind it. the others like you had mentioned earlier too much to maintain it would kill the enjoyment for me....

the R8 is going to be my 35th B-day present for myself as I’ve always wanted to own an exotic and as an automotive designer its part of my passion to own automotive art. it’s a great feeling to open that garage door and have that most excellent rear end or front for that matter saying hello!

brings a smile to ones face!

cars are as personal to me as someone you choose to date or befriend, you have a love hate relationship with them and their a personal extension of yourself, when you spend over 100k on a car you want to make sure it’s the right one..... go out spend time with each car, feel the lines hear the engine grip the steering wheel....... you will know when it’s the right one for you, everyone here has a favorite car and it will range from car to car, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there’s nothing more tragic then spending over 100k on a car that someone else told you to buy and then you wishing or realizing you should had picked something else later down the road.....

oops sorry for the long post! slow day here at work!

great post...thanks for taking the time to share.

And I agree that the r8 is definitely automotive art but so is the z4, glad we share that sentiment

Brilliant post -c-! Couldn't agree more.

I must add to my list, for sentimental reasons, a 1989 Lamborghini 25th Anniversary Countach. I wouldn't have it long, and it would piss me off regularly, but I'd love to have it to complete a childhood fantasy.

if you put it that way, my automotive dream would be to have a land rover defender 110...that would have much childhood sentimental value for me. In my childhood or even now, sports cars always took second place to 4 wheeling through remote exotic areas. The sports car is a cheaper and more daily/user friendly alternative. At one point I had three 4x4's in my garage. But I'm too attached to tracking now and would hate to drive a 4x4 everyday that gets 9mpg on the fwy

I don't know when I became such a yuppie and now own 3 bmw's, sorry 4 if the bike counts -_-

here's one of my close encounters, years ago in my trusty samurai, enjoy

Samurai's are wonderful, fun 4x4s. I've been eyeballing them for a while as a winter wagon.

i still love me some z8. nothing too fancy for $120k... just every option sans alpina, in TiAg, with some E65 style 101's. i'd be good to go...

Love how the Z8 looks, but after seeing Top Gear's review of it, I wouldn't buy one.
