Good stuff. I'm down to 2850, but in a 2004 Z4 3.0i and limited by STR autocross rules. Seats, battery, wheels, some miscellaneous items, springs, etc.

I would follow your lead and rip out more if I could. Please keep updating us -- great thread.

@Chris, do you think you can reduce weitht to under 3000lbs? I would really like to shave off another 100lbs. Maybe the aircon is next to go.

Wow. Amazing stuff going on here on the forum lately with track car builds! It's inspiring to me, and also terrifying to my wallet which has run and hidden under the couch!

In terms of losing weight in the front of the car, the current M3 uses plastic fenders to cut some weight there. Given how many contacts you guys have and the access to tech, is there any way (without paying with a kidney) to have plastic fenders formed/made? I haven't weighed the fenders, but as sheet metal they can't be all that lightweight. If there were a way to do this it might be cheaper than CF. I don't know if this is a really silly idea or even possible, but I'm just throwing it out there.

Sure, I don't mind sharing the info. I am following 2011 SCCA cage rules. I am only building a haf cage, but I want leave the option for a full SCCA cage open.

That is my goal and it looks like may be possible without too much sacrifice. I am at a slight disadvantage because of some of the mods I have already done, but we will see.

Really not a bad idea at all. Something to look into for sure.

Macht Schnell @ Braille

First I have to thank David @ EAS (europeanautosource.com) for helping chose the battery that would best fit my budget and needs.

This battery was a compromise in terms of weight. I had planned to purchase 10 lb battery, but after speaking with David it was clear that the 20 lb battery would be more reliable for the trips CA wife my wife. This is the "do everything low maintenance" light weight battery for under $200.00.

For the bracket, I picked up a custom piece from EAS. It is a Mact Schnell bracket made specifically for the 20lb Braille battery. I am really impressed with the quality of the bracket and it is even lighter than EAS quotes on their website.

Another bonus is the size. The new set-up takes up 1/3 the space as OEM

Previous total weight of battery, bracket and accessories: 55.2 lbs

Current set-up (Braille/Mact Schnell): 23.6 lbs

Actual weight loss: 31.6 lbs

I remember an conversation we had about using a certain color for accent pieces (including a cage). I stand by my statement that it'd look sick

I agree. I am either going that direction, or the safe route and painting the cage IB. It's a tough choice, but I have some time to figure it out

man, your car looks GREAT, regardless of the color of the cage! IR would look seriously cool, though.

Slow but sure (slower than I like)

Waiting on the welder for the cage build, waitng on parts to arrive...

I am looking into a tube bender, a tube notcher & a saw. I may end up doing the bending, notching and cutting myself.

and some brass nuckles to speed up the cage builder

If you look at your battery install pics, looking at the red cables contrasting with your blue paint, you can get a preview of how the cage would look in a red color against blue
