Acknowledging other z4
I guess it's not done, since I am new to the z4, every time I see another one I try t get their attention to smile or wave, like the bike kind of thing, but nobody smiles back or waves back, is it kind of lame to do? I guess there isn't much of a kinship out in the real world. Does anyone out there nod or wave or anything? I guess I have to stop!

I only give attention to Z Coupes and M models, there are too many middle aged mothers and men that aren't enthusiasts around here to keep a lookout for every Z roadster, but I make sure to get a nod or wave out the window.

For me, I usually flash if I see one while I'm driving but only the M coupes. When I had my non M coupe I would try to acknowledge other coupe drivers but most of them didn't seem to care.

I am going to assume you mean your car's headlights are what you flash?? I like to give a wave, but not too many people seem to care, which I think is too bad. |

I wave to all BMW's, regardless of model. There is a guy with a 650i vert that I see every once in a while. If I came up on him, I would pull in behind and drive there for a while till either one of us turned off. He started to the same if he came up behind me. I have done that with a few others and some get it.. some don't. It really does not matter to me. I wave the "car guys/gals" to, regardless of make. Some wave back, some don't.
It's all good!

I like to wave or toot the horn to any Z3 or Z4 that I see while I'm driving; and to any members of our local BMW Car club.
But one day back in September a guy hauled up next to me in a black z4; he was an older guy. I was just about to wave, when he floored the thing and took off. What a freaking arsehole!

I usually try to catch the other driver's eye and if they look back, I'll wave or give the thumbs up. More often than not people look away and drive off, but now and then you get acknowledgment back and that's led to a fun conversation or two.
I do this with any car that looks like it's probably something an enthusiast would drive (P-car, other BMW, F-car, whatever). There are a lot of enthusiasts in my area, and we all end up at monthly meets, so odds are with a pretty nice car I probably know the guy or gal driving it anyway... |

I would wave at another Z4MC but I rarely see one. I've only seen three (black, sepang, imola red) in the fours years I've owned my car.

I only wave to M models, as it seems that they're the only BMW owners that respect the "wave" and don't give you the "do I know you, weirdo?" look.

After reading some of these answers, I can see why alot of M's and Coupes dont get waved at. You guys are really coming off as elitests. I acknowledge all Z4s and Z3s and most of the time they wave back.

^ Actually, if you've really been reading, there's a reason why people are led to false assumptions: that M and coupe owners are elitists
Just look at the #'s. There are only just over 4,000 M coupes worldwide. The chances of an M coupe owner actually being a car enthusiast is incredibly high. Why else on Earth would people pay so much money for a small car that only has two seats, two doors, and only enough trunk space to fit one body bag (haha, just joking)? Sure, it's a BMW. Sure, it looks nice (even vert owners agree). But the fact of the matter is, typically only enthusiasts would buy a car like this. The next step down are M roadsters. Although they're not quite as rare as M coupes, they're still decently rare. Because they're M, you still are at a high chance of looking at an enthusiast. M's cost quite a bit of penny more than a non-M after all. Next level down would be the Z coupes. Again, a relative rarity. Pretty self-explanatory there. Then we get to your average everyday Z's (which as you know are in the tens of thousands in terms of production #'s), where we get all these complaints about the owners never giving you the time of day when you try to be nice and say hi What can we say? What do you guys really want from us? We can't please everyone lol I don't understand why we can't all just get along. We're all part of Z post. Shouldn't that mean more than hierarchy? Must there be politics everywhere we go? I understand that a lot of BMW and/or M owners come off as assholes, but there are people like that in any given community regardless of car makes, models, or ethnic backgrounds. You really just have to forgive them for being too proud of what they have. I'll let karma deal with their insecurities. And I'm sure that the members that've posted in here thus far don't mean any harm. I love Zpost because there's no drama here. Let's all be adults and enjoy these great cars for what they are, and not care so much about the few individuals whom may taint our respective niches. I own both M and non-M BMW's, and I also own a JDM car all the way from the opposite side of the pond. Perhaps not all people are open-minded as I am, but I for one can appreciate nice cars for what they are & give credit where it's due. So I'd like to think that my opinion on things at least have a little bit of merit to them Anyhow, I don't know about all my other fellow M or coupe "elitists," but I personally give thumbs up (or at least a head nod) to any car/person (regardless of make or model or ethnicity) as long as they aren't douchebags and avoid eye contact with me on the road, etc. Last edited by mfanatic325; 01-30-2011 at 04:19 PM.. |

Come on man...average everyday Z.....I just heard my Z sob..... While it is not an M, or a coupe, it is not average. I would put forward that the Z could never be average or everyday, for that we have the 3 series. Nothing wrong with them but they are the most produced and I would think that the Z in any shape is produced in fewer numbers than most all the others. The Z car is the most un-average car that BMW makes. Only 2 seats, long phalic hood, zero insulation or sound deadening material, very few bells and whistles, just car and driver. The Z is the most "least like the others" car that BMW has and I am damn proud to own one, even if it is "Average and everyday" So, stand up and be proud Z owners, come one come all...share the wave, share the expirence and lets just all get along.... |
