Best to keep your ears and eyes open and find something that pays what is right. How do we hide these cars from our superiors? Everyone at my place knows what I drive and I agree they THINK....blah, blah, blah.

Indeed

I already have 1 offer, and will hopefully have another by tomorrow, if things go my way

It's a shame people are like this but I guess it's part of the deal when you get a car like the Z4

During negotiations with my boss and his boss about the raise (both of them at the same time, which was weird), they kept making up lies about how I'm not doing as much work as my predecessor, even when I've presented them with numbers proving I'm getting more done. They said that other departments are having to use different work flow than before I came, so I went and talked to everyone involved that afternoon, and called up my predecessor to doublecheck, which uncovered their lies. (I think my boss and his boss did not expect me to do this, which is rather stupid of them)

I always suspected my boss was secretly jealous of how I'm enjoying life due to his somewhat sarcastic remarks about my car (he seems to bring it up in all sorts of conversations), and during the wage negotiation he was like "so you're asking us for a raise cause of the costs of your car huh?", which just confirmed my suspicions.

So 1/3=$29k, therfore 3/3=$87k, right? Some of your coworkers are no doubt jealous, but you are driving a car that is more than half your annual salary. Your superiors might be thinking you made some bad financial decisions and you are in over your head and now want a raise. (just playing devils advocate)
Nevertheless, it sounds like there is not much of a future there for you.

I bought the car 2nd hand, plus I got some income from work I do on the side.

The car does cost a lot but I'm managing

My co-workers have actually all been pretty cool about it, they're not as old as my boss and just see it as a different lifestyle choice.

2nd hand makes much more sense, especially in Belgium...these cars are are ALOT more there than the states!

It is all about priorities I guess. I have none except for student loans and my toys so I got this and it cost about 75% of my annual salary... Percentage doesn't really matter, it is all about budgeting I would prefer to have fun while I am young and single.

Lucky for me no student loans as I paid tuition from part time jobs while I was in school.

Took me a couple years in the work force before I ended up with the Z4, but that's cuz I have a Jetta, got a TT, then traded in TT for Z4 and somehow managed to get a Pathfinder before my brother parked a lamp post into it.

Its a big bonus living at home.

And I agree, I rather have my fun now while I'm young, rather then like my dad when the kids are all finally out of University and working.

Have fun now, make a family later. :P

Heck, my Z4 was my entry into the "boys club" at work. The CEO drives an SL600, the CFO drives an old Magnum PI Ferrari or any number of BMWs, the treasurer has a Z4, HR VP has an SLC 3??, two directors have S2000s, one has an M3. The CEO spotted my car the first day and pulled up next to me in traffic to tell me how much he liked it. then I told him that my used Z4 cost 1/5th the price of his SL600. Now i'm one of only 5 people in the company who's gotten a raise in the last 6 months.

As for ride quality, no one likes to ride with me down the back roads into Santa Cruz. The ride is a bit stiff and jolty. The only passengers that I haven't panicked are a former motorcycle racer and a former intelligence officer with two Vietnam tours.

No complaints, they usually get in and say WOW a BMW!!!! everyone knows it's a fun, top down roadster, everyone looks at the car when it goes by, push the sport button and ZOOM we're off!!!

No one ever complains about my car, and if they did I would hit the passenger eject button and send them catapulting into orbit.

I've got the step and when used as a "manual" along with the sport button, the 2.5 can be a real blast, especially above 3500 rpm.

I'm running Potenzas and they're not that great. I'll have to find something else once the new shocks and springs go in.

As for work, i'm at a semiconductor equipment company named Aviza Technology

was trying to see if the cause of the choppy ride is the smg... but i realize that you have the steptronic?

what do you think is the cause of the bad ride quality? I do get that some times.

Some girls complain because its too windy and it messes with their hair. Some dudes complain that the ride is too rough, and the car looks like a girl's car.
I definitely get more compliments than complaints.

If you got a coupe that would eliminate all but the rough ride!

Don't have to wear a helmet on a bike in Iowa... but you di have to wear a seatbelt in the car. I never understood that, but I am not complaining either.

Much better visibility without a helmet on.

Ive riden through states with no helmet laws. There is no way in hell, I would ever get a bike without a FULL FACE helmet or gloves. Scars on chicks= Not sexy.

Very true. I usually just ride around town so I wear shorts and a t-shirt most of the time. There are a ton of bikes in the town I live in so safety isn't too much of a problem.
