Just replace the inserts. Less stuff in our landfills and cheap.

I found an old DIY, but the pictures were dead. Anyone have a good DIY for replacing just the inserts? Thanks!

Wiper inserts are a bit of a dexterity test but there is no particular secret. The most important thing is to take a really good look at how the old ones are held in place. Then put the new ones in so they look the same way. Sometimes a bit of moisture helps lubricate a tight spot, for example where the end locks in place. (I wouldn't recommend using silicone or other lubricants lest they taint the rubber and smear across your view.)

Yep, which is why I originally had "saliva" in the place of "moisture".

Am I the only one that uses rain-x? I keep mine coated and anything over 20 mph I don't even turn my wipers on. With that slanted windshield it just flies right off. I had to get a new windshield a year or so ago ad coated it immediately and it is even more amazing. I would have replaced it just for that had I know how much better it was a how cheap it was. Love that stuff.

Truth! I put rain-x on all the glass on all 3 cars, the car becomes essentially a rolling water repellant on the highway between a good cost of wax and rain-x. It's nice on the side windows and mirrors especially, keeps the windows spotlessly clean in almost any rain. Girlfriend hounds me endlessly when the rain-x wears out on her focus, even with brand new wipers.

If all that fails, I put replacement inserts in the oem wiper frames, it's good for a few changes before the springs in the arms wear too much and lose tension against the glass.

Ps: anyone who says that rain-x makes the wipers chatter is applying it wrong, or insists on using their wipers when there's little to no water on the glass.
