+1 for black.
Red might be a distraction in the mirrors.

Body color is my vote
They do it in high $$$$$$$$$ p-cars and it works well.

As stated by others , Black is the least distracting though.

My vote, IR

If your going for stealth then gloss black.

Either way, it will be a thing of Motorsport beauty

Seat belts arrived…

Sabelt Steel Series Lightweight 4 Point 3" HANS Racing Harness

Still waiting for pics from the bar install..

Note: On the seat belts, i wasn't sure wether to go for the Camlock system (as above) or the 4 point standard seat belt slide in thingy.. we use a 5 point cam lock system at work on the Boeing seats, which are good, but not sure on how they will go in the car.. can someone clarify that I've done the right thing and opted for Camlocks?

Just as a side note, i have also ordered Sabelt anti sub belts to go with the harnesses, turning them in fact into 6 point items.

Lol.. cheers

Bit of work going on while our newest addition, Atlanta Gwen arrived safely on the 23rd at 5:15pm.

And then back to the rollbar..

Today the rear adjustable strut is being made, and then tomorrow the bits that go from the centre of the bar to the rear shock towers..

Thanks everyone for the well wishes..

Atlanta had t go back in to hospital 2 days ago and re-admitted for her kidney function, all good now though and just got home with her. (hopefully for good this time)

Rollbar has been changed to follow the roof lining across the top, rear strut brace has been fitted, now waiting for the chairs to arrive so we can cut holes in the bulkhead for the seatbelt. bars from the roll hoop to the rear strut bar have been cut, but still need to be mounted.

Lots of work going on with the car atm...

but i haven't seen any of it.. been too busy with Atlanta

Anyone know if the drivers seat also has a occupancy sensor? my roll bar guy is asking if we are going to deactivate the airbag on the drivers side due to the belt harness?

Go full bar or nothing. These aren't like Cayman / Boxsters with tons of aftermarket race gear / fabrication support. In my opinion the real benefit of running a fixed back seat is the ability to run harnesses. For a time I ran factory belt only with my Recaro and it wasn't the same. I feel way safer with 6 point and HANS. I'd only do seat without bar & harness for low speed events like auto-x.

Shots of my roll bar during install. Didn't alter my bulkhead so the factory belts stayed in place. Told installer to keep it factory looking as much as possible. Only thing modified really was the center trap door and cutting the rear carpets (rear bars) and pillars (gussets) for welding.

Zip tied factory belt receptacles to bottom of roll bar (behind seat) to prevent seatbelt chime and airbag light.

I then purchased a separate belt receptacle that's affixed to the seat mounting hardware which actually accepts the factory belt.

Factory belts and harnesses routed

The bling

After picking up my car, one happy customer. I HAS IT.

Ti, hope you don't mind me picking your brain for a sec mate,

a few questions starting with…

I think i have the pax side sorted with the pax occupancy emulator and seatbelt chip thingy. But unless i keep the original pax pre tensioner seatbelt in the car, ill get a code for pre-tensioner right?

okay, thats for the pax side, now for the drivers side…

I only have one of those seatbelt mod things to turn the light off (for the pax side), so ill need another correct? unless i keep the pre tensioner with a buckle inside it for the drivers side?

so it sounds like unless i wanna end up with 2 pre tensioner codes, ill need to remove the pre-tensioners and buckles from my original seats and put them back in the car.. somewhere.. with the drivers side buckled up (with some aftermarket buckle insert only correct?)

Which aftermarket seatbelt receptacles did you buy? do you have a link?

I have 2 buckle inserts I've bought that can go into the pre tensioners, which will do away with the seatbelt light, and as i am also keeping my oem belts, id like to know where you got your receptacles that you mounted on the side of the side mounts..

Or is it at all possible to use the OEM pre tensioner receptacles on the side?

cheers mate.

I used a E90 rear seat belt receptacle for mine. It's essentially a receptacle on a length of seat belt webbing. Looks OE since it's a BMW part and it fits the Z's clips. E46's and below do not fit. I also like that it's floppy so it isn't a challenge to fit it through the the hole in the seat.

EDIT: eBay was my source and it cost about $30. Here is one...

Sorry for late reply, haven't been on forums much lately.

You only need an emulator for passenger side, not for driver side.

Yes keep the original belt. It does not need to be clipped in but if you have a passenger with you then obviously leave it clipped in. I have belt extenders clipped into mine. Reason being I still have my OEM 3 point still accessible and is used during everyday (off track) driving. The OEM 3 point clips into my new receptacle (see below).

I picked up my receptacles from VAC and I believe they're OEM E30/36. You can't use the existing ones wait harnesses because they're so bulky, they'd get in the way of your aftermarket harness lap belt. That's why mine are tucked behind the seat. If you're not going with harnesses then use you can use the OEM Z4 receptacles.

Thanks Ti, I think ill try and keep both also, depending on how wide these Tillett chairs turn out, i may just keep the whole 2nd seat belt thingy stock, probably re-weld a few bungs to make the stock seat belts fit properly.

not sure on anything yet until the actually seats arrive.. (which is supposed to be any day now that they are finished) bloody hell, its been over 2 months..

then factoring in courier from UK to my door, thats another day or 4, so looking at least at another week or so i guess before i even see these seats..

I haven't even test fitted the VAC floor plates, but on the up side, my seat heaters have come in the mail

also not too sure how these seat heaters are going to work yet, but will see..

Ti, thanks for the info mate, and man loving your car with those red seats mate, how do you find them to drive and how close are your seats to the door? any rubbing going on?

Way more comfortable than stock M seats for sure. No rubbing but keep in mind Pole Positions are definitely on smaller/narrower side.

I honestly don't see how you'd be able to fit the factory receptacles. You're going to want to mount the seat as close to the trans tunnel as possible in order for a) the seat to center with steering wheel and b) get as much clearance from door cards. So if you're going that close inboard those bulky receptacles will not fit together with your harness lap belts.
