Silicone calk?
You want to use something you can easily peel off when the weatherstripping inevitably needs to be replaced.

Mine started to do the same late last year and was considering some type of adhesive until I was fortunate enough to have a decent sized rock kicked up by a truck in front of me that resulted in nice 9" long crack that outlined the inner and bottom edges of teh passenger side visor. Now I have new front glass.

If you want it replaced the windshield have to come out. I would try some kind of double sided (mounting) tape that is strong.

Not quite true. A few on here had replaced that molding piece WITHOUT having to remove the windshield.

Definitely not.
Old one pops right out, new one pops right in.
Some have had trouble getting it to go in and stay in.
I think there must be slight variation in the position of windshields versus the surrounding bodywork.
I got lucky. Mine snapped into place with no glue needed and has been set for at least 2 years.

100% you do not have to do the windshield.
I have done this trim and it's very straight forward to replace.
The part is inexpensive as well, IIRC it was in the $70 range.

That's not what I heard. I had my roof wrapped and they managed to damage that molding so they had to replace it. They in return had a glaser replace it and the glaser had to remove the windshield because the molding was wedged between the windshield and a-pillar. I assume they know what they're talking about since they change windshields all day long. I'm not the one paying for it so I don't care. Got a new windshield also since the old one broke when they removed it.

It's true that it's sometimes possible, but it's sort of a matter of luck. The moulding has a kind of hook on it, you need to push it down far enough that the hook will manage to slide in behind the glass and catch; locking it in place. The front outer surface grabs the front of the glass, the hook grabs the back side. If you can't get it pushed in just right and the hook doesn't grab hold on the back, glass is coming out. If you're lucky or skilled enough and it snaps together around the back of the windshield, glass can stay.

If the glass comes out they can easily install the moulding onto the glass then place it into the car as a whole. This was all explained to me by the glass shop who shares the building with my friend's indy BMW exclusive shop, they've worked on many of these modern BMW trim pieces and always try it without removing the windshield first.
