WTB: Help Rebuilding Z4M Coupe
Hello! I picked up a salvage 2006 z4m coupe a few weeks ago. I think some of you may actually recognize it as I believe it previously belonged to a few members.
I need some help with parts. I'll be looking around at for sale postings, and vendors, but I'm hoping to get lucky and source most from other members at a better price! Let me know if you have any of the parts listed below Update 3/31/14 Most parts on order, but still looking to pick up a few loose ends: -Strut tower brace. Car previously had Strongstrut brace, would like same or BMW. -6 point harness. Car previously had Schroth Hybrid II 6pt. Would like same or similar -Need 1 stock passenger side kidney grill. Seems like one got left at the yard... Will take 1 stock chrome, or two of any other color. Tan interior? I have tan leather seats and tan door cards available. Also, stock shocks and springs.

Your best bet on prices is to befriend someone at an independent auto shop that will order the parts for you at their cost. You pay no tax’s and shipping charges and you could sweeten the deal by paying the shop one percent over the cost so they make a little money and you save money.
This is how I get a lot of my stuff, especially when I had to rebuild the left side of my car…. Think outside the box....................... |

Updated parts needed based on what I've already ordered.
The oil cooler and its shield got a bit dinged up. Cooler doesn't have any leaks, so I might run it for now. Anyone have experience running an aftermarket cooler? Would rather not spend $550 on an OEM oil cooler and shield when I could get better results from an aftermarket setup. |

A lot of the FI guys are running Setrab oil coolers. Larger capacity and may be in the same price range.
Ship has some great ideas on pricing. TheBMWpartstore, Tischer, and BMW of Morristown all run 50-60% off what the local dealer will charge you. If you can't get an angle using Ship's approach those make a good Plan B. |

Here's what she looked like sitting in the Copart yard: Went and inspected it the day of the auction, and just like I thought - no major structural damage. Fenders, front fascia, tie rod, headlights, etc. Did a little Sherlock Homles internet sluething and found this thread: For Sale Post Hooray! History, and lots of goodies that you can't visually see! Told myself that I would not go over $11k no matter what... Had a guy from New Jersey one upping me and the adrenaline rush was one of the best I've ever had. Ended up getting it for a little under $15k after Copart fees. Doh! Had to head back to NY and get travel arrangements sorted out. Decided that it was cheapest/easiest/least stressful to rent a uhaul pickup and auto hauler: Got it home off the transporter and into the garage. Dirty Girl Some great looking cage welds Stripped down bare - very little damage underneath it all... While I wait for parts to come in I think I'll spend some time cleaning her up! To be continued... |

There are a few parts that I'm still looking for:
-Strut tower brace. There will probably be a few other things I've missed once I start getting it all back together. Truck is supposed to delivery parts sometime this week! What are you looking to sell? Ninja edit: also undecided on filling in the headlight washer holes, or just securing the covers in place. And I'm pretty sure I'll run an aftermarket oil cooler unless a cheap OEM one pops up. |

Aw shucks! That's always how these things happen isn't it? Definitely let me know what you decide to do. Right now I'm mainly focused on getting it back on the road, but there are a handful of small things that need fixing. Buying new would nickle and dime me to death, but if you were parting out your car it could possibly work out well. LMK

-oil cooler and lines -whole system for headlight washers -front plastic underbody tray -if yours is a coupe, then some plastic panels in the trunk are missing. -might like to go back to a stock steering wheel Possibly a few more suspension pieces which right now I'm assuming are okay. I have to start taking some measurements to see if things like the front lower control arms are okay, rear trailing arm, rear lower control arms, etc. I also am hoping that the steering rack is okay, but it took a shot and might be crap once I start driving the car. |

Yea insurance really fuked me over. Good luck with it man, it's a great car. Unfortunate I had to let go of it, but the numbers didn't make sense.
Cheers, enjoy in good health. |
