Steering wheel adjustment lever

I'm just wondering about the steering wheel adjustment lever on my '08 Z4C.
It doesn't seem to want to disengage to allow me to make an adjustment. It feels like it will break off before it disengages! Any ideas on this? Normal?

Not normal. Should be easy to move the level with thumb level finger pressure.

Wheel may be at end of up/down travel range, and it may be similar to trying to turn the ignition key when the wheel has a bit of load on it. Try some upward pressure, and if that doesn't work downward pressure, and see if that helps. (E.g. use your knee to put some pressure upward on the wheel.)

7 years later.....

Just bought a E90 sedan. Wheel adjustment lever stuck and wheel probably at lowest tilt (former owner was asian...). Tried to push/lift the wheel but no luck. Any suggestion? More muscle or dismount the cover around the steering wheel to get to the lever? Greatful for any suggestions.

Only thing I can think off is to smack the wheel with the palm of your hand up or down while applying gentle pressure to the lever.
