This one may be a little overpriced

Saw this 2007 BMW Z4 on AutoTrader's iPad app

It is the same BaT car, dealer looks to have purchased it there for resale. The winning bidder is 'shaun_Platinum' and the selling dealer is 'Platinum Cars'.

Local dealer to me, and they're pretty notorious for tacking on a MASSIVE premium and sitting on cars forever.

Is that $100k in Canadian dollars?
Regardless, if it sells for anywhere near that, it could be a new worlds record

what's surprising (not really since it's another crazy dealer) is that it's not the best color combo and it has Nav. I thought cars with Nav usually go for less...

So $76K USD. Good for him, but I don't think this will make that. Wasn't there a guy in NYC a year or so ago asking obscene money for a Z4MC? Lets wait and see what it sells for. Nice looking car though.

I just bought a 3.0 Si (roadster), one year newer, with only a few more miles and most of the "features" shown for this red one (no NAV), but not an M, for only about 20% of this asking price. That's a lot to pay for a little more power and a steel roof.

Last edited by Squidd99; 01-23-2022 at 11:19 AM.. Reason: Changed CSi to 3.0 Si, correcting a dumb mistake.

Congrats on your CSI, I'm not familiar with that model except the CSI from the 70s, which model did you get?

It's not just the power and metal roof that makes it so much more valuable, it's the rarity and demand of this particular ///M model which continues to increase in value. Sure, it's not worth the asking price, but with only 1815 made for the US market and very few left with low miles, so yeah, it's a pretty rare and valuable vehicle...

From what I have read 1815 was the allotment for all of North America, of those 1815, 200 came to Canada and received the minor RIV changes to make them compliant with our rules.
So in a way, it's even more rare
I think he's over priced it too but I wish him luck.

Pungo: nice catch. My car is not a CSI (that's a TV show). I bought a 2008 BMW Z4 3.0Si. It's not nearly as red (in fact it's black) nor as rare as the car at auction, but it gets around right smartly.
I'd love to have that red coupe, but not at 100 large.
(I have corrected my previous post accordingly.)

Yeah, I wasn't sure if the CSI was some limited model I hadn't heard of ...
Dollar per dollar, the 3.0si is a very capable and overall awesome package...
I had a E86, 3.0si 6MT for many years, it was a blast to drive...

I also read some dealers would perform such tricks as a business write off. I don't know the details how it works however.

I think a lot of dealers have seen what Enthusiast Auto Group in the states have done and are trying to replicate it. There's a lot of people with money who want these cars as close to new as possible and don't really care about price. Especially since trading these cars like stocks has become so popular. If a digital photo of a monkey can go for a quarter million, why can't a mint condition car go for half that? The price doesn't really make sense, but what does these days.

I thought this too. But from dealer pov and insurance values too Nav is an added option vs no nav so kbb will consider it more value to have an out dated nav than none at all. Least that’s my theory.

For my use, even though the NAV is way dated, it still has other uses besides navigating directions to your destination.

The nav is nice to have when when carving on unfamiliar curvy roads to let you see turns coming up and how sharp they are. Sure a phone can do the same, but the nav is always right there, and easy to view.

And if you're lucky enough to have a Intravee II, there's a lot of vehicle info to view on the nav screen:
  • current/max coolant temp
  • current/max rpm
  • current/max speed
  • battery voltage
  • max acceleration/de-acceleration G-forces
  • detailed logs for the last (17) trips showing max values for all the above as well as the time and distance of each trip.
If someone uses your vehicle, or you take it for service (not me), you'll know their max speed and max rpm since it records it
Besides that, there's other coding that can be done with the Intravee II since it hangs on the ibus and sends commands. It's a powerful little box. Check the extras it can do in this PDF.
