More Power out of M54?
Hey everyone, so I've browsed the forums for a while now and I've noticed that everybody talks about more power out of their cars. This is great but all of them are for N52 cars or S54 cars. I have a 2003 Z4 3.0i that I'd like to build as a race car, but for the street. The car is fantastic, but I think the M54 leaves a bit to be desired, having driven the N52 3.0si. I have a set of ZHP camshafts as a start but I want more input on how I can make more power from this engine.

More aggressive cams, catless headers, tune, and a well-designed intake system will add some power. ZHP cams aren't very aggressive.

Okay, what kind of intake system would be good? And tune? I've heard good things from the shark injector but it seems that is for unmodified engines, no intake manifold or headers etc.

ECS (I think) took over the Shark Injector name and no longer use Jim Conforti's tune from what I hear. Instead, timing maps are arbitrarily increased and no real tuning is done. Find a tuner that will review data logs of your car and build a tune based on the logs.

You are actually speaking to the tuner who likely knows more about the M54 ECU than any other tuner out there in my opinion. Check my siggy below.

Oh that's awesome! Okay, do you know how I can squeeze a bit more power out of this engine? Like anything specific I can do? I'd like to keep the ZHP Camshafts because they're in like new condition and I think they're not too aggressive for street driving

No, no talk to pokeybritches.
He is tuning my engine at the moment. Very knowledgeable.
