Run-Flat's vs. Non Run-Flat's
Good afternoon everyone,
I tried searching the forums for an answer, but I don't think I got the exact answer I was looking for. I'll admit I'm not very knowledgeable in terms of tires, which is why I'm asking in the first place. So, my car has the Sport Package equipped and came OEM with run-flat tires and that's all I've been using since I've had the car. Now, I'm thinking about switching to non run-flat tires. My question is, are there any adverse effects to using non run-flat's when the vehicle came equipped with Run Flat's? Thanks. |

I switched to non run flats and I couldn't be happier there shouldn't be any negative effects I'm pretty sure they only used run flats in the first place was because there is no spare

There are "better" runflats out than a few years ago.
That said, I replace the rfts on my DD with Pilot Sport A/S tires. Couldn't be happier. Not quite as sticky as the Super Sports but longer wear warranty and happier in very cold/wet weather. Very good in cold/wet, darn good in warmer weather too. Choice of course depends on requirements (type of driving, conditions, etc.). As noted, make sure you have a tire plug kit and mini-inflation pump, and/or the ///M mobility kit (or similar) is N case of a flat. Obviously you can't drive on a regular tire when flat. AAA towing isn't a bad option either unless you're in the sticks somewhere (middle of Nevada, etc.). |

I'm about to go the other way, as much as I hate to.
Got stuck once on a busy freeway. Hole in the sidewall. ///M mobility kit useless. Dark. Everybody going by at 80+ mph, and people in SoCal often drive with 2 wheels on the shoulder. I had to pull beyond the shoulder into the mud ditch and wait for over an hour for a tow. That experience coupled with the fact that 3-4 times a month I'm out in the middle of the Mojave in the middle of the night leaves me little choice. There are some apparently nice ones to be had, at $400+ each.
