Both figures are low…this car is like the e46 M3…it's a market value car...KBB, NADA, etc are always much lower than actual value.

No dealer on earth will ever use KBB. KBB is astronomically high in their values. Every dealer will use the Galves black book and will not deviate. The reason being is Galves will cut a check for the price matched criteria vehicle that the dealer has purchased with no questions asked. Private party and auctions obviously are different stories. If I ever do part with this beautiful nightmare I will consign it to an auction company.

I wouldn't be so sure if I were you. This gets determined by geographic location, the interest the dealer has in your car and your business, what you're buying from them, and how badly they want (or need) to make a sale. I typically sell my cars privately when the time comes, but the times that I have traded in, I usually walk away with KBB/NADA money. This is my 20th car and I have a tendency to switch cars often. I also know the industry well and have access to auction tools such as Manheim, etc. If I ever trade in, I go and tell them what the numbers are going to be, if they don't like it I walk away and find a different option - end of story.

Much like my deferred comp and 401k accounts... nice to hear they're going up, but it's going to be a LONG time before I consider cashing out.

Except that the new Z's already came out. And without an M model in the lineup... I think the S54 cars (coupes AND roadsters) just become more and more desirable.

Last S54
6-speed manual
NA engine (as stock)
Non-electric steering

It's the last of the purist BMW's. Not to say that there haven't been some killer drivers since then, just way more tech bells and whistles involved.

Last of the analog sports cars.

Let me clarify. The rumored Zs that have yet to come out. Once they come out, the e85s and e86s will drop in price even more. E89s are too heavy. Apparently, the new ones may go back to rag tops and have CF tubs. We'll soon see.

There's the Z, and there is the Z M; unless the one you speak of can be had as an M car, I doubt it will touch the value of our cars. It will take something in the same category to knock this car over. I wouldn't buy an e89 Z over my e86 M coupe - it lacks the M factor and pureness. Also, let's assume a new Z M car comes out, it will most likely be turbocharged, rev lower, and be full of electronic assistance - some of us like the naturally aspirated, mechanical feel.

It will also certainly lack a proper manual trans.

Highly doubt the prices to go any lower. They will stabilize around 25-35K depending on mileage and shape. Similar thing happened to e46 M3 and Lotus Elise/Exige since I was in the market for those when I purchased my M coupe. Prices dipped, came back up and stabilized. Release of future more expensive cars will not drive down the value of used cars.

I would assume both, though the M coupes are much more rare.
