Regarding BPV noise on a s/c, for what it's worth, you will hear the BPV a lot if you are at anything but WOT. Being that the s/c is belt driven it is making boost almost all the time. If you are not at WOT, the BPV is bleeding off the extra intake air pressure. I had a Comptech s/c S2000 before I got my Z4MR and it was the same way.

You probably have enough miles on the new blower for the breakin process, maybe its time to treat her like a bitch now?

I've been getting more aggressive. Got to drive the car around more today and my originally spoiled sentiment continues to monotonically increase Updates: - It's really awesome to hear the BPV on the freeway. If you do a short pull, even in 6th gear, say to make a pass--the pressure release when closing the throttle is quite distinct and satisfying, though refined and subtle. - The S/C whir is definitely now present in almost all driving scenarios. Previously I could not discern the S/C on the freeway due to a combination of motor and road noise, but now I can; it's a wonderful, constant reminder of the capability that is ready and waiting to be unleashed. I still love how it sounds when decelerating while still in gear. - Drivability is improving and I would be happy with the tune if it doesn't change any further, though I suspect it will. No more uneven output/driveline jerk when decelerating, though there are still some faint, quick pops and puffs (ONLY under part-throttle deceleration) that imply the ratio is probably off. - Power output: probably in part because I haven't had more than several opportunities to do a high-RPM pull, I'm actually most impressed and excited about the performance improvement from the eminently accessible 3-4kRPM band. WOT in that range feels something like WOT in 5-6kRPM used to! We are all seeking a more meaty powerband down low, and despite the linear boost increase the centri provides, in tandem with the catless headers it delivers a substantial improvement in this range. - Motor sound under load: pretty much gives the impression that armageddon is imminent. It's addictively visceral; there's no mistaking the sound that this is a moderately-sized engine pushing truly big power. It does sound finely tuned and maxed-out. 3-4kRPM is still probably my favorite range as the VANOS comes into play and the catless headers do amazing tricks with the rasp that evolves in that range as well. The classic rasp is deepened and strengthened in some way, almost like it's harder-hitting, without being dramatically louder in volume. I'm going to edit and upload the externally-mounted GoPro video from yesterday, and later today try an in-car mounting to see if I can get better sound--at least when the windows are up. |

very glad to hear your impressions. I can't wait to get my "minor" boost leak fixed so I can be at your level again!
Its like getting a whole new car. At first I was dissapointed that there is no traditional supercharger whine, but I really enjoy the melodies this kit produces (based on my initial experience with everything working properly)

I'm generally revving to 6.5-7k. At least once earlier today, when I did exceed that, I noticed a pretty substantial vibration develop--almost definitely on the motor, as it was primarily transmitted through the stick. I do wonder if the new belt is under-tensioned and wobbling as various harmonics are encountered. How much does your belt yield if you push on the section heading down on the right after looping the S/C pulley? Is it really quite tight or reasonable to move an inch or so? I continue to tread cautiously with over-7k engine speeds but will do some of my standard pre-supercharger 7.5k pulls tomorrow to see if the vibration is always reproducible. Also have to get that inside GoPro footage. If dubbed with audio recorded from an iPhone, it might be decent! |

yes you will get the wavering power during adaption time, you dont need to be using the revs heavily all the time but you should be exploring the entire rev range so this thing can adapt all over all... did the guys reinstall the harmonics damper behind the crank pulley??? feel free tighten the belt, it will eventually slacken off anyhow, they really dont need to be tight as this itself will over stress the bearings in the unit........ funny your feeling alof of this vibration thru the stick....... tranny mounts?? engine mount backing out?? this needs investigation imo..... email ess and see what they think......

I definitely never had such vibration before the kit. The only reason I mentioned the belt is because I felt a similar vibration at 5k+ RPM before the pulley was installed, but now it seems to start later.
What is the harmonics dampener and would I be able to see if it is installed? |

So after more driving today, the vibration is not always present--it may be the A/C compressor, but it wouldn't make any sense to me if the car didn't disengage the magnetic clutch when going WOT. Even my Supra did that. But, the fact stands that the vibration doesn't always occur and I think the differing factor may be A/C (I'll test this later).
A new video is uploading, but the in-car GoPro didn't result in that much better sound. Nonetheless you can see the tachometer so it's somewhat interesting. I'm wondering if I'm properly developing full power, as on a dry road, my tires are holding the power even in 1st gear! This could be a testament to the Super Sports, but that excuse is a lot more reasonable for dismissing lack of 2nd-gear slip than 1st-gear. The car has gotten a fair amount of driving in even since the pulley change, so while the computer is still adapting I'm not sure it is the full explanation. Beedub & Roffle: have a look at the video (I'll edit this post when it's up) and let me know if the pulls are slower than you would expect (most of them that go to 5k+ are WOT in either 1st or 2nd). |

Mfanatic has a dyno day set up for August 14 and is looking for one more participant. It's fairly close to your neck of the woods. Why not bring it by and let the guys drool over the S/C while getting a dyno done? That will tell a lot more than other more subjective measures.
Just my 2 cents. |

now with vt2 im finding first gear pretty much useless BUT...... you have a very different climate to me here in the UK, maybe this has something to do with it??, but im finding no trouble breaking traction in first and also the change to second..... i need to make you a video clip...driving with traction control on makes the car useless as its constantly on making progress very very slow....... iphone get yourself a cheap mecanical boost gauge, run it down the windshield and tap the rear vacuum line, this will allow quick periodic checks of boost then you simply reconnect the line using a i piece replacing the T piece that comes with the gauge, this is what i did for a year when i couldnt afford my gauge setup....... i know you were down alittle but i think your looseing boost somewhere.... i cant say how important the gauges are to this setup..... you could be running 5psi and simply not know, each PSI on this high compression engine makes a good amount of horsepower but something is not right imo....... then again i dont know how much temp is effecting HP/Grip levels, add to the fact im running 8psi compared to your 6.5psi?? i dunno, id like to know where you 0.5psi is going?? im on pss with a 265 rear tyre..... a 500bhp car with sub 1400kg should easily be able be able to slip the tyres in first.... something is not right. this is vt1 445, watch the first 10 seconds coming out the gate

I'm gonna have to say that the climate is making a difference. Even with traction control on, my car is not bogging down or being slowed down much. In fact, it has enough torque to overcome the traction control. So I think Iphoneengineer's kit is fine, especially since he confirmed 6.5psi of boost

I had to leave the upload overnight again, but here's the video. Please, if anyone has suggestions for a system to get better audio quality from automotive videos, I'm willing to buy equipment.

its kinda difficult to tell because the video isnt the best..... arhh i dunno, think the best thing you can do now is get a boost gauge asap and run it like i said just to allow some testing to see what your getting boost wise, or i definatly feel you need to get a dyno asap ......
a gauge setup is essential to the general running of this kit imo..... i know i keep banging on about it but, right now youve been told youve got 6.5psi, for all we actually know that could be 5.5psi, really your shop shouldnt have let this car go without it showing the proper boost it was supposed to make..... 6.5psi is entirely possible on a 7psi pulley But i think id be asking why if their is another reason why im slightly down on boost, you actually may have a boost leak..... for the 50 bucks it'll cost please please grab a mecanical boost gauge and temp run it like i said, grab a passenger get on the freeway and do some runs and at that point you can make some decisions on where to go next....... this is the cheapest way to fault find and it also giving you some working knowledge of your kit as you taking things into your own hands.

Yeah, there has to be another leak, and I'm hoping it is much greater than just 0.5PSI despite HG motorsports' measurement. For as much as I love the car, the sound, and the performance I have, based on your and now Roffle's newly posted experiences, there is no way it is right that I'm holding the power even in first gear.
I'm scheduled for three DynaPack runs on August 14th. I'm not sure what I should get in the way of a boost gauge; most are meant to be mounted in an A-pillar pod or something. I guess I'll just get any for the sake of testing soon. I'll just try to enjoy what I've got and stop reading the fairy tales of beautiful tire smoke in 2nd . |
