Track Day Follow Up

Had an awesome time at a driving school put on by the Rocky Mountain Chapter BMW CCA at Pueblo.

Couple questions:

About half way through the 4th 20-minute session, my brakes began to make a high-pitched metallic ringing sound for a split second when I would apply the brake and then again when releasing the pedal. It seemed like it would occur when the pad was just barely in contact with the rotor. Brake feel/performance did not seem to have changed, any ideas on what was going on there, something to be concerned about? Brakes didn't make noise afterwards and felt fine.

Also, very scarily went 4 wheels off at about 70mph. Didn't try to save it, so just drove straight off the track. Was definitely a violent bumpy ride, the run off was into a dirt field, with some loose gravel mixed in. Only visible damage was a scuff mark on the clearbra on the front bumper where I inhaled the cone. Anything I need to check out regarding underbody that could have been damaged? No leaks, rattles, or vibrations felts afterwards. That type of thing throw alignment off?

Thanks!

Did the brake "squeal" start occuring after your agricultural visit? If so, perhaps you have/had one a piece of gravel or some other debris stuck between the pad and the rotor...

You know that's a great observation, will investigate.

I've had the OEM pads get hot and squeal worse than race pads. No damage or fade. Once they cooled down everything seemed fine and squeal stopped.

After going off track it wouldn't be a bad idea to get the four wheel alignment checked. If things are out of alignment you'll wear the tires down quickly.

I've had alignment checked and reset every time I've gone off into the "wild".

Glad you enjoyed the driving school.
