The original gearstick does seem to have some slack in it, which I find shocking.

This is a common issue with the Z4M.

I've heard many people getting new transmissions. Call up the dealer.

As far as the shift knob goes...exactly how hard are you pulling up on it? Cuz there is no other way to get it off, but pull...really...really hard.

Ya...changing my stock shift knob was almost too dangerous to attempt, jk. But seriously it should not be that easy to pull off especially not on a new Z4

How many miles do you have on the odo? When did it start grinding?
You are not the first to have issues shifting into 2nd. There has been some transmissions being replaced even with very low miles, <1500 miles.

The mileage question is very relevant as to how the dealership will handle the issue. If you have low miles it is unlikely the synchro was damaged at 1k miles due to driver error. These tranny's are fairly durable. An arguement can be made that @ 25k or more that the driver might have damaged the transmission through either abuse or inexperience. Regardless if you are grinding going into 2nd you should go immediately to the dealer.

grinding started around 1300 miles... and now i have 4000 miles on it same issue... my clutch is all the way in...

as far as the shift knob goes, i did pull on it a bit hard going from first to second on full throttle... but what made me upset was that why was it built that cheap for it to come off like that... it shouldn't just come off like that

Well...a couple things...you shouldn't ever pull on your shift knob...if you do, you're not doing it right...

Second...how else are you supposed to change it out? Unless you want to screw it on there...its gotta come off some how...

Mine occasionally grinded going into third. I switched to Royal Purple SynchroMax fluid and no it's mostly gone. I still get the occasional third gear synchro engagement delay, but I can feel it and I don't force it.

Break it and then force them to fix it, but I'd recommend against that.

Did you guys with the UUC SSK have this problem before the install? And you guys can confirm that your car doesnt grind 2nd anymore afterwards? Hmm...if that's the case then I'm gonna order my SSK right now!
