Looking at a Z4MC - Is this a good deal?
So I've been looking at Z4M Coupe's for a few weeks now and I've spent a ton of time scouring this forum, autotrader, cars.com and ebay - and I've narrowed my list down to a few different vehicles. I wanted to get the forum's opinion on one specifically for sale in Mobile, AL. Thoughts? I'd really appreciate some expertise on this!

The carfax shows 3 prior owners - this may not mean anything as long as all 3 took great care of the car... There is an accident reported in the carfax - this scares me. I personally find the mileage - history - price ratio on the high side. For your reference: the asking price on my 2007 M Coupe was $35k and it had 16k miles (July 2011), 2 prior owners but came with 2 years left on the CPO Warranty (peace of mind). Although I consider the price I paid "fair", I had a great deal on my trade in (max. KBB value) which made the whole purchase a "good deal". I would hold off till I find one with a cleaner history - but that's me. Good luck.

given the higher mileage, I wouldn't do it. Don't get me wrong, I am saying it is a very bad deal, just think a better deal can be had and I personally put a lot of value on low mileage. I have seen low 20k milles cars asking for about 1 to 2 grand more just couple months ago when it was still summer, with winter coming the price will most likely go down. The problem with these cars are they are so rare, if you can be patient, I think you can find a better deal. It took me 6 months to find mine and I couldn't be happier that I waited.
good luck! |

You can do better for that price. There are garage queens that come up for sale once in a while with lower miles for the same amount of money. Widen the range of your search and pay the extra 500-600 bucks to ship the car home.

Thanks - one thing I forgot to mention is that the dealership is offering me $6000 for my trade - a 1996 BMW Z3 with 56k miles. Its less than I could get private party, for sure, but more than the other dealerships have offered (~$4000). I know one owner was the Toy Barn in Columbus, OH, which is a dealership (great name IMHO), so its really more of a two owner car.
My instincts are telling me to pass on this. There IS a private party sale on autotrader thats about the same price, immaculate carfax, with 24,000 miles - but I don't love the black exterior/brown leather/wood trim combo - its three very different colors. Would it be expensive to install black trim instead of the wood? Sounds like you got a great deal with the warranty! I've only found one that has been CPO, and they wanted wayyyy too much for it ($35k with 45K+ miles I believe?) |

Priced to make the seller rich. Go with the pack...wait for the good deal.
Also, maybe it's just me but I didn't know our cars came with fog lights, nor do I see them in the pics. And a tachometer?? lol j/k but seriously, good deals are out there

2. My search is, at this point, cross country (except the West coast). The game plan is to fly to the car and drive it home. The one benefit I have is that I don't drive to work - as a daily driver, I'll put probably 5000 miles on this car annually. |

I would not say it's a good deal if you are paying for the asking price. You may also want to take a look at the classified section as there are a few members selling their M coupe there.

I agree with the above. Less expensive + fewer miles + 1 owner + accident free = mo' bettah. Fairly easy to find if you take your time.
As one example, there was one on eBay a few weeks ago (for the second time) ... mint Imola Red ext, black int. premium and fully loaded, after-market exhaust and forged wheels, custom cover, plus OEM wheels and exhaust.... all for an ask of $35,000. Less (as I recall) with just OEM. The kicker? 5,000 miles!!! And warranty to 2014!!! I was super interested the first time in May but he wouldn't budge a bit (then). Now... maybe. He'll relist again soon. Indiana car. Just a hunch... send me a PM and I'll dig out his contact info. He may be glad to hear from you. Seemed like a good guy. The preemptive bird gets the coupe. Cheers, |

Eric at Enthusiast Auto in Cincy has a 2007 Z4MC Sepang Bronze w/Grey interior for sale with 20k on the clock. I would check that one out. It'll be a bit on the high side price wise but you won't have to worry about the car being anything but perfect when they get through with it.

I had this one on my list..
The accident was not a fender bender.. The mileage and 3 owners plus the accident kept me from lookin at this one too hard.

I'm glad I posted this thread. I'm getting too caught up in offloading my Z3. The car is paid for; I can buy a Z4MC and keep the Z3 at my parents place in Memphis where there will likely be more winter time interest.
