proper oil for 2006 Z4 3.0si

hi guys

I had my oil changed at a non-BMW shop and saw that they used Mobil1 0W-40. Later I looked up what the proper oil should be and almost all posts I could find say 5W-30, ideally synthetic. Do I have to be worried now? Should I ask them to change the oil again?

Also, they used 7 quarts, does that sound right?

Sorry, I bought my car used and it came without a service manual.

The OEM oil is 5W30, but using 0W40 shouldn't cause any problems. I tend to stick with the manufacturer's recommendations, but people have run 0W40 in the N52. Here is a link to oil analysis of 0W40 Mobil One in the N52

Mobil 0w40 is actually one of the few oils approved by BMW for use in all of its cars, except the M models. See link below.

I used 0w30 Syntec Euroblend the red label one. Runs great, hard to find though.

In Canada, I've always found the German or Belgian made version of this oil readily available at Canadian Tire stores in Calgary even sometimes on sale at about $8 per litre, instead of the usual $10 to $11.
