I don't think you'll notice a huge difference in sound. But here's hoping it'll at least be a bit throatier

Agreed. I dont want it much louder. Its pretty loud already with the AA headers and Meisterschaft cans.

Got x pipe installed. Had to modify the cross beam a little bit because the right pipe was touching. No biggie, they heated up the cross beam and bent it down a bit. The car is much louder, pops and burps like crazy now. Revs seem to climb a bit quicker too. So far I am happy with the purchase. My set up is AA headers, RE X pipe, Meisterschaft Race cans.

The fitment issue is the last thing I needed to hear. Do you know where and what the pipe was touching. I was gonna DIY and I have no access to heat anything up. This could be bad. Other than that sounds promising. Wonder what harm it would do if it was hitting the cross beam?

Not so sure the best thing is to heat and bend the "cross beam" - if you mean the rear stress plate. The rear stress plate is supposedly somewhat integral to chassis stiffness and reinforcement. BMW recommends replacing the bolts, says they are one time use - not so sure this is entirely necessary however, if they are saying that then it means to me the bolts and stress plate may be more important that just a convienient way to hold up the exhaust...

I wonder if by "cross beam" he means the rear diagonal braces?
Those would be very easy to lower a bit by modifying the center drop mount bolt & add shims.

That would be ok. I could handle that i believe. Crossing fingers. But it looks like on everything I see there is 2" to 3" between the braces and the stock pipe. The braces are so close to the cans that if it were up that high there is no way they would connect unless they bend drastically at the end. Im at work so I cant tell that right now. Doesnt look like they do in my pictures.

Sorry i was not more clear the first time. It is number 6 below. It is the reinforcement plate. The shop said we had to do it because if they remained touching the cabin would vibrate like crazy. I have been driving around all day and the rasp is settling down. Its becomig less loud and more deep.

The right pipe was touching part of the reinforcement plate. They heated and pulled the plate down (its aluminum) about 1/4 inch and we were good. Keep in mind this was just on my car. Does not mean the same will happen to you.

Installing now. Have to take pipe off from header back. Think I can reuse the donuts from the header? I have no new ones laying around.

Cig break: Almost impossible to remove x-pipe from section 2 w/o removing whole piece. Removing rear braces and undoing front bolts from section one and headers next.

^I agree, it's much easier to separate section 2 & X-pipe off the car, on the floor.

Rasp city. I dont like it. Shit. Ill drive till fall to check it out. No driving impressions yet just sound(rasp)
EDIT: Norasp when it is warm. I like it now. A little more mid-range power too.

Before(halfway warm)

After

And now After with the fully car warmed up....took up to 4800 rpm

Here is where the pipe was rubbing. I had a buddy with a press put a small (1/4") bend for a bout 3". Still wasnt enough so I purchased two washers and put them under the plate. Worked well.

The red circle is the rub area. The red line is where I bent the plate out. The yellow circles is where the washers went.
