LED License Plate Lights?

Does anyone have these?

I have Umnitza Predator Ion V4 License Plate lights in my E46, and I'm thinking about swapping them to the Z4M...does anyone have experience with them in out cars?

I just want to make sure I don't get errors or anything of that nature, thanks

Less legible would just want the officer to get closer and investigate your plates.

Think about it; if they can see your plates from a mile away...then they probably think you're clean...

I dunno, I think weird. I ran them in my E46 for 3 years and no problems. Not to mention I had illegal dark tint and a loud exhaust...I never drew attention

Well, I don't want them to be so hard to read that I'll get pulled over, but I don't wanna help anyone read my plates or make them easier to read than stock. makes no sense to me

It's personal preference I guess. I don't have anything to hide...go ahead and throw my license plate into the system. It's not like I'm running from the cops.

White light in general is just a cleaner look than yellow halogens.

I agree completely.

My car uses the LED license plate lights from E92-Lighting. Search for him on the forum. He's a sponsor.

all the new BMW's use LED's now for their plate illuminators.......I wonder how easy it would be to just gut one and transfer the guts to our lenses?

at least then you’ll have OEM brightness VS. the aftermarket way to bright ones....

by the way who sells the modded e92 led's to work with out setup, i need names and contacts lol...

Yea I've ordered from him before...great guy.

I was just wondering if the bulbs were transferable and if any codes would be thrown.

I'm assuming you've been fine with your set-up? Do you have any pictures?

I'm pretty sure the E46 lights won't transfer over as plug & play units. Plus, the Z4M-specific ones aren't expensive for a pair.
I've used them without any issues, but unfortunately I don't have any pictures of them at night. It was just one of those things that I slapped on and never considered a mod, so I never took pix of it

edit: Just be sure to ask him for additional wiring adapter so you won't have any downtime. He supplies two different types of wiring. Ask him to to send four total (2 of each type of wire) just in case. Because apparently, Z4Ms changed license plate lights throughout the years of production, and therefore some require different plug heads. And that's where the different wire adapter comes into play =]
It'll all make sense when you pop them out and try out the retrofit.

Roger, didn't know if you had random pics around.

Do the covers pop out as easy as the E46s (with just a screw driver)?

^the license plate bulb covers pop out by inserting the flat head of a screwdriver into a little notch along the edge and levering it loose. there is a flexible metal piece that secures the covers to the bumper itself. installed a new halogen bulb in mine last week after the old one had blown. contemplated the led route too but am really happy with oem.

Yup, they're similar to E46 style in the sense that they pop out. I remember having to bend the metal tab a bit extra for the first one that I did. Then after I figured out exactly where and how to compress the tab, the second light was easy to remove.

p.s. I've tried OEM LED plate lights for my E46, and the ones from E92-Lighting are MUCH brighter/cleaner. These are actually probably one of the best bang for the buck modifications done to my car (if we can consider it a modification lol); just because they make a huge difference.

I have the ones from E92-Lighting and they are perfectly fine. Installed easily and have no error codes. My only complaint is that they were then so much more white than my headlights, I ended up upgrading those to Philips 6000ks to better match up. The package says the LEDs are 7000k but they match up great with the Philips 6000k headlight bulbs. I will be ordering some LED reverse lights shortly!

Here is a before picture with the OEM bulbs:

And after installing the LEDs:

Bingo. That's what I want.

What bulbs do the rear back-up lights take? I have some 6000k LED bulbs sitting at home. I can sell you a set if you want some

hah thanks for the pix. There was a thread from a while back, and I was too lazy to dig it up

Tell E92-Lighting to provide you both parts C and D. (both types of wiring).

Makes ZERO sense to me either. Blue white light for the interior is gross enough, let alone the license plate. Serves no useful purpose. Unless u'd like to put some nice black-light tubes under each side your Z4M too so u match

I am not sure which ones they are. I looked on realoem.com and found all of the bulbs but I am unsure as to which one is the reverse light. I guess I will just have to pull the tail light out to see.

Aw you're too funny.

Opinions are like....everyone has one.

They were clean as ever on my E46. I don't see how they can ruin a rear end. I think having yellow light reflected off red paint is terrible, and ugly as hell. I don't even want to imagine sliver.

You're just matching the license plate color. Why not just swap your license plate color to yellow if you hate white so much? Makes ZERO sense to me
