I got my first (!) today. Not sure if it was cuz I hadn't put air in the tires cuz I bought it or cuz the roads here are worse than they were in SC. Either way, I whipped out the mobility kit and juiced em back up. All is well

I had to take my car into the dealership again this morning. I went into the garage started the car up and my pesky ( ! ) was on again. They checked the air pressure, put it on the rack, ran a test on it, put the tires in water - and NOTHING! They believe it may be a faulty sensor, so they reset it and told me if it comes back on to bring it in and leave it with them so they can replace the sensor.

i use my dads cinderblock sized craftsman ( or is it black n decker) electric air pump. its half black and half silver metal.. im sure someone here has the same thing.

ill resort to one of thoes jack hammer style bicycle air pumps before i use gas station "free" air.

speaking of which id like to find a place that i can get nitrogen for my tires.
My comment was pointed to this guy. I don't know you well enough to insult you yet. Gimme time.

A guy at the dealer told me that his wife's car had a hairline crack in one wheel and her (!) light kept coming on. He had to replace the wheel.

They did say these sensors are extremely sensitive. It not only measures pressure, but also rotation. They been very nice, but it's been frustrating - especially since I've only had the car two weeks.

They aren't that sensitive...all 4 of my tires were 4-6 psi below recommended inflation pressure. So either they were underinflated from the beginning and system was set at the wrong pressure or they aren't too sensitive. Either way, I think it was a good experiment to see how low the pressure in my tires get before the (!) light comes on.

Our local Costco in Boise has Nitrogen. The sign says better performance, balance, and makes your tires last longer. Is this true?

True about how sensitive mine went-off a couple weeks ago, but I actually had a flat and the one tire was 10psi less than the other ones (20's)... But it took a 10psi difference

I heard last week about the same thing...filling the tires with other then air. What is the scoop on this? Is it something that makes sense?

According to http://www.getnitrogen.org/why/index.php

Nitrogen is all around us. When used to replace oxygen and other
gases in tire inflation, it enhances handling, improves fuel
efficiency, extends tire life, protects the Earth and,
most importantly, keeps you safer on the road.

you can read the rest here....

our z4's use the abs system to note differences in each individual tires' rotational speed. if pressure drops, rpms increase in relation to the properly inflated tire. there is no ability in our z4's system to actually measure tire pressure. i believe systems that do measure pressure require monitoring equipment in each wheel, which makes swapping wheels a breeze.

New ones use an in tire/wheel sensor.
