hello again Guys. My trip's going great! After Key West, the Everglades, and Orlando again, I ended up spending the weekend with a new friend in Athens, GA, but I'm on the road again, refreshed and invigorated.
I toured the Z4 plant in Spartanburg today. WOW!!! They've retooled their assembly line to be a single line now, instead of the two lines they had before, one for the Z and one for the X-5, so now all the cars go down the same assembly line, no matter what kind it is. It's easy at a glance to tell that the SAV outsells the Z by a wide margin, because the line was populated by at least five-to-one X5's to Z's, mostly black. What is amazing is how spectacularly efficient the whole system is. Each car is individually assembled to pre-ordered specs, and each car is on the line in the order it was scheduled, and M's, Coupes, Roadsters, and SAV's just all run down the same line, and the parts are delivered to each station in sequence, and their materials are delivered daily on a "just in time" schedule. It is an absolute marvel of logistical system management, I gotta say. Very impressive. The robost were very cool to watch, too. Oh, here's something else, for anyone planning to go to Homecoming, or take the tour. I was very lucky, because there were no tours offered for a while while they retooled and restuctured the plant, and as of June 1, there will be no tours for something like six months, because they are starting to produce the first of the new super-secret version of the X5. I asked the tour guide if the factory will be closed for tours during homcoming, and she said that she was told it will be in a secure status for several months. Anyway, that's all I know, but anybody involved in Homecoming might want to contact BMW to find out more, or if it will have any impact. I'm sure that that wouldn't affect the parties or test track stuff, but I just thought I'd pass it on. My sourse was just the tour guide, and I don't know any more than that. Oh yeah, Floridaboy... glkad to see you, and in case you missed it before... LOVE BUGS SUCK!!! And 20ducks, I'm still hoping to get a good night in Chicago, but my schedule's squeezing so tight I may have to bypass it, or risk pissing my sister off. Just in case, though, what club would you most recommend for good Blues? |

Hi guys...
Well I was really rather fond of the Z4UM, but since I fear it may never return after a rather long extended downtime, added to the fact that I'm getting serious withdrawal symptoms from my daily Z4-internet-fix!, this looks the closest (being a dedicated Z4 site) for my new home. Hope you guys don't mind me moving in? Alpine White Z4M Coupe 19" CSLs -- Gruppe-M Intake -- H&R Springs -- Light Tints -- CDV -- DICE |

Yeah pretty good. No changes since my last posts on Z4um, but Ive got the car booked in for a custom cat-back system from Hayward & Scott at the beginning of July. They're pretty well respected over here (hence the 6 week waiting time - gives you an idea how in-demand they are!), and I fancy something different from the usual Supersprint, Eisenmann systems. A mate had a system on his S2000 from them, and it's the sweetest sounding S2000 i've heard, so i'm looking forward to seeing what they'll do with the Z4M...
How's things your side of the pond?

Hehe.. it was quite sunny and warm here today. First day in a while though - it's been pretty grey otherwise the last couple of weeks.
Not that it matters much in a Coupe though....
