I have seen them listed on ebay for around $40. Is it worth it?

They work great - I have the ones without the pads...

Try RockAuto. Look under accessories-exterior in the BMW-Z4 area.

"Do NOT use the threaded tow fitting found in the tool tray for towing or puilling the vehicle onto a flat bed."

So what is it suppossed to be used for?

^ LOL good question. I got my car towed once from San Francisco because my gear lever decided to lose a c-clip -_-
I didn't have the threaded tow hooks on me, so I told my insurance company to send a regular tow truck instead of a flatbed. Those regular ones are actually pretty cool. Their cross arm can scoop up the car from underneath a given axle. I didn't know this until I checked it out and saw the tow guy prepping the tow in person.

Any of you folks actually have a jack pad at the front center point? I don't recall seeing one there since day 1.

Yup, it's there. All cars should have it from the factory.

Front jack point

Thanks-- got a part number pointer?

Checked realoem.com and found the usual jack points, but it only gives a qty of four for item 17.
