WTB: Z4M Coupe Track Car

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
None

Item Interest
Hi All - I'm looking to buy a Z4M Coupe that can be converted into a DE track car or one that is already built for track duties. I don't care too much about options and cosmetics. It just needs to be in good mechanical condition and well maintained. Has to still be "street legal" to be driven to and from the track.

Please let me know if you are looking to sell or have leads. Thanks!

Hmm.. price range? I've been contemplating letting mine go so I can fund a Supra race car but it needs to be the right buyer.

Of course this post shows up after 2 years of trying to sell mine lol

Good luck, OP. Very few out there, but you've started looking in the right place. Most folks on here are pretty alright. I miss the M coupe dearly

No particular price range. I’m leaving it open ended to find the best candidate for a track car. Tasteful track mods are welcome!

Located in Northern, CA. I have known the owner for 10 years, it's a well built car from a longtime track driver and BMW enthusiast.

I should have mentioned, the car has to be "street legal" so I can drive it to and from the track. Roll bar and such is fine.

That example of an M coupe is about as bad as it gets that one could find on the market. It was once a nice build done by a fellow forum member here but has since been totaled and undergone heavy molestation after it was sold.
Salvage or maybe now rebuilt, tons of unoriginal and missing parts (seats, interior trim, front bumper all not M pieces. Steering wheel trim, trunk parts, front ducts/air guides/undertrays and more missing).
Chassis damage appears irreversible due to cutting out bulkhead behind seats for cage.
Has had lots of paint and body work of unknown quality done.
So many things throughout many hands have been removed and installed and removed and installed over and over.
Just cringeworthy to see something like that happen to an M coupe.

Here are some links to how the car once was and what it ended up being once salvaged and many pieces removed and the current for sale post illustrates what it is now;

Safe to say, I have no idea who would pay more than 20k for that, might be a bargain at 15-18k to finish gutting and track but otherwise, tread with caution on that car.

Yuck I thought I recognized that unique roll bar, did not connect the dots thank you for the community warning! That is what I get for taking a quick glance only.

Most track builds remove the bulkhead though, could turn it around if the cost is cheap and frame straight.

Are you against a blank canvas? There’s 13 MC listed on CarGurus. Since you want to stay street legal it might be easier and cheaper to mod a stock MC vs modifying someone else’s track beast. And the right beast here is probably not going to be very street legal, pending local laws for you, as you’ve seen. Do you have emissions to have to keep it legal for example.
With the info from the couple previous posts it reminds me of a local car I looked at once listed “track ready” and it was anything but. It would’ve been cheaper to buy stock on the car I was looking at then go through all the work in undoing and redoing to deem it worth my time. Every upselling feature of mods that was increasing the asking price from something comparable stock had to go. So just saying you might want to find something you can do once and done to what/how you want.

I saw this car when it popped up and I wish it was a bit of a better example. It lived a better life with the prior owner.

I’m also ok with a car that doesn’t have the bulkhead since I will go with weld in rollbar either way. A car with a quality half cage already installed is a plus.

A stock build is certainly in the equation. Im also not worried about buying a car someone else built for DE as long as it is mechanically sound and well built. I guess part of buying a semi built car from someone else is buying the seller. What I’m not after is a pristine collector example that is priced to the moon. A few dealers are asking for that kind of pricing and the car market is softening.

Hey NLE I've been thinking it's time for me to part with my z4 m coupe. I haven't posted in awhile so my post history is pretty out of date. It's track ready and mostly bullet proofed, but is a prior salvage car that I rebuilt. Send me a PM if you're interested

Thanks all for the forum’s help. I was able to find a clean car in SoCal. Arriving tomorrow! Time to start modding
