I assume the body guy knows what hes doing though and I gotta say its pretty clever putting the clear protection film over the gloss roof. My fear with black roofs was always the same as yours - they scratch so easy its ridiculous. Very soft vinyl. But the protection film is so hard and it also gives it this nice depth. Phenomenal work, really great job. I love the Z4 coupes
The installer knew what he was doing but we gave ample time for it to dry before applying the clear bra. The vinyl went under the panel when possible or under mouldings. The clear bra was trimmed at the edges so don't think pulling will be an issue.

Out of curiosity, what would happen if the gloss black film and the clear film weren't installed on the same day?

And did your installer specifically instruct you to wax the roof prior the install? Almost every installer I've talked to said not to apply wax beforehand.

The clear bra need not be the same day, it just ensures the black wrap underneath remains unscratched. But I've seen gloss black on other cars and if you were to accidentally place your keys on it, it'll scratch instantly -- it's that sensitive.

And yes, he told me to prep the car, which was the same recommendation even when he applied a clear bra to my bumper months ago.

I think it would look great. Add black wheels and grills and the look is complete.

Can you take a pic of the margins on the side, where the door panels are? I just did this on your recommendation and it looks great, but only thing is it is tough to get the clear bra plastic to tuck underneath like the black vinyl does. I know you said that you trimmed it, so I was wondering what the margins look like because I can't seem to imagine cutting it without it looking completely obvious a thick layer exists on top of the black vinyl.

Would be much appreciated!!!

Cheers

I had a bad experience with these wraps. Two days ago I just took off my CF wrap on my roof. I bought it from ebay and first couple months it was great but after a while the wrap was flaking off an looked terrible. I think the guys that detail my car must have waxed it, and with it baking in the hot sun that caused it to deteriorate. Plus a combination of it probably being a cheap wrap and not the good 3M one really messed me up. Looks great but I wont do it again. If I want a glossy black roof I will paint it. If I want a carbon fiver one I will put real carbon fiber from now on.

Right, but that's why I went the route that I did which was to cover the gloss wrap with a clear film so all the things you describe wouldn't happen. I've detailed my car once since applying the film and I haven't had any issue with flaking, discoloration, etc.

Yeh I think perhaps the clear film will protect it from flaking, I'll wait a few months and check back with you to hear your impressions
