Z4 soft top issue - windows didnt go down, roof didnt go down, button solid amber

If your windows did not roll down when the convertible roof button was pressed most likely it's this metal clip that was missing. You can do a basic test to see if the switch is working by manually pressing the button on the microswitch, with a pick tool or small screwdriver, and have somebody activate the roof button to see if the windows responded.

Here is a microswitch (part# 8 236 846) for my 2003 Z4 E85
with purple connector not shown. There is also another microswitch (part# 61 31 6 916 426) with a white connector for this same car, but it will not work (pictures 5&6).

Picture 1

Below is how it positioned after I inserted back into its plastic housing.
When the rear deck is in the down position, it will press this clip agianst the orange button, and the system knows that it is clear and your windows will roll down about 2" both sides.

If this clip is not sticking out like this, or it's missing, the system will not roll the windows down and your roof button will show solid amber.

Below is how the plastic housing with the microswitch, glued in place, from the back side.

This new microswitch below (61 31 6 916 426) somehow would not work even when hardwired into the purple female connector coming from the trunk. Fortunately, I only needed the metal clip so I pulled it from this switch and installed it on my old switch (part# 8 236 846).
