Both of mine broke within a week of one another. First, the drivers side......no biggie.....it's not that far of a reach to the passenger one.......then it also stripped the ratchet stops and dumped a drink less than a week later. My mechanic worked at the dealership and can get them for $50/each............I figure I'll just buy bottled drinks that I can put the cap on and put 'em between me and the trans hump.......or wedge them an inch or so under the seat......or toss them on the passenger seat. Cost to benefit ratio of replacements doesn't add up.

After owning my Z4 for only a week, I have already banged my knee several times on the driver side cup holder. In addition to the poor placement, it's useless for holding cups that are smaller at the bottom and large at the top (I'm looking at you, Whataburger cup). I gave up and ordered some Ultimate Cup Holders. Apparently BMW needs some new cup holder engineers - the ones on my wife's 328i are equally abysmal.

Alternative use for 'em? None that I can think of... as soon as the Ultimates arrive, the stock ones will be opened never again.

... Or for an iPad to attach to ... or ???
Here in the land of Starbucks and coffee, when you drive up to the Starbucks drive-thru....there is a cup holder sensor....if your cup holder is broken....the voice over the order intercom tells you to get out of line and keep movin -

We have "claws that can be pushed in to grip..."?

it's the water in the drinks that adds weight, 2 pounds for a 32 ounce beverage.

There are starbucks... but why would there be a sensor that tells you to get out of line?

Has there been a recent event that would cause that to be starbucks specific?
