3.0i resonator delete

So I have searched all the threads regarding deleting the resonators and stock muffler and adding an aftermarket muffler which in most cases is the Magnaflow.

Can anyone give me a good reason why the aftermarket muffler can't be in the stock location still removing the resonators and going straight pipes from the cats to the muffler?
Is the location of the muffler close to the engine the reason for the improved sound??
Would the sound be different with the muffler at the very rear of the car???
Would there a performance improvement with a longer run before the muffler????
I would be interested to compare the difference between 2 round mufflers, a 2 in 2 out muffler as well as a crossover muffler like the Dynomax 17552 muffler
I realize there would need to be some fooling around with the tips but that is not too difficult.

Thanks Dave

Interested as well...I have a 3.0i as well, and would like a bit more growl...without doing a complete change. If I can remove the muffler or cats...would either be more 'sound' without sounding too harsh, or ricey?

There is a number of threads that touch on this topic without actually addressing your question, suggest reading through the various muffler threads for some history/depth. Some threads listed below overlap and link back to one another but will contain some good info hidden in the discussions. If you do decide on a mod, post your work. Many of us are still in search of cost reasonable options. Good luck.

Yea I've been through the posts more than once looking for any info that might give me an idea of the sound I will get

My main question is if I remove the resonator run straight pipes back to a performance muffler will I get more or less db's as compared to a performance muffler replacing the resonator and straight pipes back.

Seems more of an engineering type of question than a "who's done it" type of question.

Absolutely, but replacing with aftermarket at that location or putting in place of the resonator is the jist of my inquiry.

I was going to go the MagnaFlow Route via Angry Cop style, but that part would not fit inbetween the firewall. It hung below the car too much so I just did a muffler delete.

So I did muffler delete but left the stock 2nd resonator. Let me know if you need any clips. Love the increase in dB and the "gurgle"

That opens up the option of reworking the innards of the stock muffler so no new pipe work is needed, it has been discussed at length and done on many M's.......might be time to do a 3.0

Looking forward to those sound bytes pyo

I would only want to change out or just completely take out the muffler and add in straight pipes.

Here is just a straight pipe.

And here's a Magnaflow.

Will try to get a friend to help me but its forecasted to rain ALL week here.
Anything specific you are looking for in the clip?

The 2nd vid Exist posted above me is what mine sounds like.

EDIT: Found an old clip when I first got it done. Car was still in that garage, so it may be a little louder than it really is.

I would propose without 100% knowing for sure that running pipe all the way back will result in more drone than putting the muffler in the middle.

I've replaced my 2nd cats with a magnaflow and run pipes straight back - I love it

Thats fine, really interested in what the sound difference would be with a longer run of straight pipe to the muffler with the resonator removed or with the resonator moved to the end of the run.
I had a trans am back in the 70's and did a dual muffler delete and replaced with resonators, it sounded awesome but we are talking difference animals.

May have to mock up both ways over the winter and see what turns up.
I am a steel fabricator by trade.
