I'm sorry too.

Just out of curiosity, was there ever any effort by DKF to take an production section 1 kit from the GB batch and install it themselves onto a Z4M to verify that it doesn't produce CELs prior to releasing the kits to us?

I'm confused to what is the exact issue here???

Are you guys saying the cats aren't functioning properly??? if so how have you come to that conclusion?

is it possible the z4m is just sensitive to exhaust mods and is just throwing the cat efficiency CEL but the cats are intact working fine??? i.e the post CAT o2s.

They produced a one off custom kit for a member here and it has been working fine.
It was the model for this GB and same specs given to the mfg/vendor.

We haven't heard from everybody, but so far nobody has a CAT that doesn't throw a CEL. (none w/o a tune)

Seems that Blind32 and Arrgo1 both have had successful installs. Did yours throw a code? Initially you posted that you were fine and it seems you've been to the track too without a reported issue. I have not installed mine yet, may never if I sell the car soon.

Maybe a list is in order to attempt to track which setups have succeeded/failed (including headers/tune information for each).

Pretty sure Arrgo1 has a tune not sure about blind32.
My CEL came on in less than 100 km.

I wasn't too worried as I just did my mandatory emission test prior to installing .
I'm good for 2 yrs.
I'm going to switch to the resonators for the rest of the year.

I do have the ESS tune, but that being said after around 1000km, last week I got the good old CEL. Reset and am at around 150km now with no sign of it coming back on. Too early to tell if it was a one off or if it's just going to keep poping up(probably will, based on others). So now you can count me in with the rest of the rabble. Going to try the Evolve tune anyway and they seem to be able to turn off the rear O2 sensors, or at least turn down the level at which the ECU is looking for. Don't really care as long as it prevents any CEL's, and if I can sqeeze a bit more out of the old beast, even better.

Did you get confirmation that they can doctor the O2?
I asked in the GB thread and didn't get a positive response.

...would be good to know

Imran(Evolve) was quite sure that they can "turn off" the post cat O2 sensors amongst the other more standard things such as higher redline and accomodating euro headers and CAI etc, etc. and was happy to do so under the group buy price.

I've gone with the AA tune, installed by a local shop, although I'm still having a leak at the clamps when the car is cold... As mentioned before, if I knew the cats wouldn't be up to the task, I never would have bothered with this in the first place

Since the thread is so muddy at this point, just for clarification, I feel the same way. Would have waited around for a set of Euros if I had any indication that the DKF wouldn't pass sniff or cause a CEL.

So no cats? Have you compared sound with resonators vs the cats in the DKF setup? Significant difference? I might swap mine out as well since I'm using a tune for the CEL anyway...

When I did the original test fit, the test piece was a resonator & it sounded great.
Will be installing the kit resonator this week sometime if I get my diffuser finished.
I'll let you know the difference.

We'll let you know in a week - using them without the cats sounds like a good idea!

So I got the kit on today! Sounds amazing, I put the cats on first to see how they 'felt' and sounded. Happy with the results. But on the drive home (from the garage) it sounded a little...off all of a sudden. Got home, nothing is loose or hanging or anything so I'm thinking I may not have tightened the clamps all the way down. So with that.....How tight do they need to be? Does the clamp need to be touching closed? I got them tight to where there's maybe 1/2" gap between the 2 sides. Forgive me if that's what's wrong.

When I go fix it might put the resonators on.

And for those wondering, I had the Service Engine Soon light when I put the CSL headers on, so I don't know if CEL is a different light/error or just a different name.

....so I know I have a good baseline system to test with.

If I get a CEL now I will know it's not due to leaks or bad sensors.

I will let you know how it goes.
I haven't had to install mine yet, as I was able to renew without the drive clean.

This does seem like a waste though. If I have to test again, I'm going to replace my OEM headers and not bother with this nonsense.

I'd put my DFK stuff up for sale, but after this thread I don't think I'll be able to give it away.

Chalk this one up to a bad experience...

So are we all just SOL on this? and $800 - $1100+ down the drain?

Most certainly hope not.

UPDATE: I went back to the garage on Sunday to install the resonators and found the problem I was hearing. One of the pieces that get screwed into the bungs on the cats (not O2 sensors) unscrewed itself on the way home, so that was the cause of the noise.

But now that I have the resonators on...oh man! With the CSL headers and these pipes my baby sounds amazing! I'm going to a local car show in a couple weekends and they'll have a dyno on site so I'll have someone taking video so we can hear just how good it sounds from outside. Plus numbers obviously.
