Exclamation Help - 2nd Opinions Needed.

Hi all,

Recently I found visually that my camshafts are worn and they have scores on them. I have put over 50k miles on my ride and I've been through a recent shimming to adjust the tappet ticking issue.

Sadly to say, it's ticking again now due to the camshafts hence I'm due in for some expensive engine rework. I've been to 2 dealers, 2 non dealers and they have said the same thing.

1. Replacement of camshafts, rocker arms, check to see whether valves, springs, cylinders are ok etc.

At this point in time, I'm looking at anywhere from 6-10k worth of repairs and since I'm looking to keep my ride for at least another year or so. I'm going to do the work instead of buying a new car

So before I go around doing anything... I need some advice and some tips to look out for prior to starting work. Parts are one thing, but labour is going to cost a fair bit.

Is there anything I should take note to replacing since the car is going to be in the workshop for at least a month.

Reading online - It seems I might as well change the waterpump (prone to failure).

Rehaul my vanos unit at http://www.drvanos.com/ (no issue now but who knows in the next few months)

Timing belt

Supertech Valve springs (???)

Shrick camshafts??? - Unsure since the current OEM camshafts have been really good and I dont want to mess with a good engine.

And anything else? Forged aftermarket Pistons, rods?

The car is mostly used for street purposes and from time to time on the track. I don't think ill put in a supercharger but I'm uncertain at this point in time. This repair cost is an anticlimax to my dreams of an ESS VT build.

Alternative is buying a new engine but that's a little over the top IMO. Just would love to hear from the mechheads here and form a little bit of FAQ base for other owners in future who have higher mileage Z4Ms and/OR planning to do an engine rebuild.

Wow, at only 50k miles? Were the cams worn all over with scores on each lobe, or was it limited to one or two lobes?

We haven't taken out the rocker cover (peered in via the oil cover, and felt 1 with a finger) to see whether it was all the lobes.
