Does this look normal to you? Looks like a shield is missing underneath?
I never really noticed it until today. I was doing an oil change and noticed there's no skid plate protecting the transmission oil pan. And in front of it is the shield over the oil pan but there seems to be 3 or so mounting holes toward the back of the shield that don't connect to anything.
Is this normal or am I missing something? This is a '05 3.0i. M54 engine. Don't mind the drips, that's water I had spilled earlier. |

That is missing on mine also.
I believe it is a plate with vents to help cool the trans.

It looks like it would be part #8 on this diagram:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_4963 But that part isn't listed on the chart with it. |

looks like it only comes with manual transmissions?
Mine is an automatic. I wonder if it'll still fit. Would be nice to have some protection from the auto tranny pan bottoming out.
Thoughts? |

I think you will find that only steptronic cars had them.
