Thanks to all that helped me pick this car. Absolutely in love. As far as driving experiences go, this is something BMW no longer produces.

Just got back from a 600 mile roadtrip through pretty cold weather and the car was great. For the price I got it for, I was expecting more work. I'm going to have the car on jackstands and do all fluids, as well as full detail.

So happy with this car:

Nice choice. Personally I think you made the correct one. Remember, most convertibles start life as a coupe and get the roof cut off. Not only are they not rigid but they are heavy as hell with all that bracing underneath the car. The M Roadster was designed to be a convertible, in fact it weighs less than the coupe. As you probably now know, rigidity isn't an issue. Before getting my M Roadster, I test drove an E36 M3 vert and it shook all over the place. Same story with the E46 M3 vert.

After getting the M Roadster, I test drove a '13 135is vert and not only was it not rigid, it felt like driving a panzer, it was that heavy. After the test drive, I jumped into my Roadster and couldn't believe the difference. It was amazing! Lightweight, great engine, great steering, brakes, feel, etc. I really can't describe the difference, it was just so much better than the newer 135is. I agree with everyone on here that has made the statement that BMW doesn't make cars like this anymore. I recently sold my M4 to make room for another car and don't miss it for one second. Good car? Yes. Special and exciting in a way M cars are supposed to be? No.

These MR/MC cars are special. Hope you enjoy it! I personally love the sound of that S54 with the top down.

Interesting thing I learned today that I haven't seen or noticed brought up before. The steering rack is different between the coupe and roadster.

Z4M Coupe 12.8:1
Z4M Roadster 13.7:1

I live in Clearwater FL area. I had never owned a convertible before. I spent my first 30 years in NE Ohio, now 22 years in FL. I spent 5 months test driving all sorts of roadsters and was starting to give up on the 2 seaters and started looking at sporty convertibles, because I could not find the power, sexy good looks and handling in one package. I was also on a $20K budget. ( if I'd of sold my Datsun 240 Z with a brand new 3.1 Stroker FIRST...then I'd of had more to spend, it's still for sale at $ 25K ) I loved the '99 Z3M I test drove, but could not find a 01/02 in my price range. I wanted the S54. THEN, through luck, I saw a 06 Imola red/Sepang Bronze leather, extended heated seats, with leather interior trim. As soon as I was 5 minutes into my test drive, I knew I had found my car. Higher miles than I was looking for ( 55K, bone stock ) but completely babied and single local owner, who, owns a performance race shop. This is the most amazing car I've ever had. 4.4 0-60, 20% less rigid than the coupe, also 200#'s lighter. Driving topless is incredible. Quad exhaust is perfect. I will never let this car go.

I've always liked the 240/260/280 Z cars, though never owned one. I did have a 1970 Triumph GT6+ which has a similar shape.

According to the owners manual, the roadster is only 33 lbs lighter than the coupe, not 200.

It's warm enough here in Charleston to enjoy top down driving all year as well. Obviously in January and February there are some cold days where you leave it up, but most of the dead of winter here is 60 to 65 for a high temp. Nothing beats speed and handling in a roadster, in my opinion. I love the openness. A light jacket and some heat and I'm good to go. I love that area of the country you are in. I did business for many years with a company headquartered in Tampa, and spent year after year at the Don Cesar in St. Pete for annual meetings. Clearwater, St. Pete, Tampa ......... a great place to live

I live in Greenville SC, so our weather isn't as warm as you guys. But it was 80F yesterday and I was absolutely enjoying my decision to go with the Roadster.

You mentioned that it was such a great deal and fell into your lap. If you said a price, I didn't catch it. What did you give for it if you don't mind saying. Dead of winter up North is a good time for a deal I'm sure. I waited till late Nov.
Were you keeping up with that yellow banana ? Glad you are enjoying the wind in your hair.

Didn't even try to keep up. I've driven that car multiple times and I'm convinced that there's not many cars out there that will keep up with the GT4 in the mountains. It's easily the most confidence inspiring car I've ever driven.

I bought the Roadster for only $16.3k, which as far as I'm concerned, makes it one of the best deals in the country. 2 owners, 0 accidents, 89k miles, clean Carfax. It does need a few things and the airbag light is on, but that's how I was able to beat down the dealership. As you said, between the car needing a few things and it being 20F up in Ohio, I was able to get this car for a steal.

I'll have to sink a few grand into the car to make it how I want it to be, but I'm well ahead of the curve I think.

I know I've 100% made the right choice and I can say I have literally no regrets.

The Roadster has its own charms/looks, but more importantly, I've driven the car with the top down more than it has been up. It just makes that driving experience that much more visceral!

I've thoroughly enjoyed this car 1 month in

These cars are just the best deal in the country right now. In a land of grossly overpriced new and used vehicles (thanks free money and eight year car loans!), these cars by far offer the best value for the money. They have everything, the looks, the performance, the quality, on and on. I don't think there's a better car out there for the money right now, you made a great decision.

Agreed! I really struggle to think what other car I'd rather get for $20k and there just aren't any. Now is absolutely the time to pull on the trigger if anyone is looking for one of these.

As I said earlier in the thread, with the price I bought my Roadster for, I'm so far ahead of the curve. I could drop $8k into it and still be under what a good Coupe goes for

I stand corrected. 33 # is correct and thank you as I don't want to spread false facts or FAKE NEWS....

I don't know why I thought it was actually 197 # all this time. Perhaps with driving 20 some cars over a five month period in search of a fast/beautiful/rare roadster I got my numbers mixed. I'm left handed and have mild dyslexia, not to use this as an excuse, but NUMBERS ARE NOT MY FRIENDS
