pics finally
Finally got around to taking some pics. I've had the car about a month now. It's a blast to drive. Moved over from a 2009 370Z. That was a fun car as well, but there is no denying the M Roadster here on the coast with the great weather we have............... top down it is

Well, they are definitely different, and my 370 was a coupe. I am a car guy first and a brand/model guy second................. I appreciate a lot of different cars for their different strengths. The 370 is a lot of car for the money. They made great improvements in the interior as well over the 350. The design and materials were upgraded. That said, it is still not quite the Z4 level, but again, a vast difference in MSRP. The 370 power wise is about the same, IMO, as the Z4 M ................. but again, the S54 is a much smoother engine. I think the 370 got a lot of abuse from the press in the NVH category, and again, IMO, the engine was not as bad as they made it out to be. Where it started to get "buzzy" was around 5500 to 6000 RPM. Still, it had nice low end torque. The M has a lot of technical and electronic bells and whistles that the 370 did not. I know some question whether it has too many for a pure sports car like the M Roadster and Coupe............... to each his own I guess. I was ready for a convertible, and I made some enemies at the 370 forum with this comment, but I really did not like the lines of the 370 vert. It looked like an afterthought to me. Styling is very subjective however, and some like it. The M Roadster is a classic, great design and lines, reminds me of a modern design paying homage to a retro look and attitude from the '50's, that classic roadster design every dude in that era wanted to drive.
Don't know if this was what you were looking for, I may have digressed a little |

Thanks. It has a few blemishes that bug me, but overall still looks good. I have a small blemish in the soft top, small burn type spot that has black paint on it to seal and stop any material running. The seatbacks have a spot each where the former owner rubbed the material off when removing the removable mesh wind deflector on and off.............. and the soft touch rubbery material around the steering wheel is coming off, plus the ashtray cover is scratched. I touched up the seatbacks with that fabric repair kit you can buy at autoparts stores............. it actually did a fair job of making it look far less noticable. The steering wheel accents I will most likely replace with new ones, as well as the ashtray assembly. The soft top I will have to live with until the fabric wears out, just too expensive to replace for that one spot IMO. I'd like to smack the former owner for all these ills, there is no excuse not to take care of a great machine like this, and the blems under his ownership were all avoidable as far as I am concerned.

^thanks for the quick comparo. i asked because i had an extended test drive alone in a nismo 370z last summer and felt underwhelmed. the small things like the rev-match manual (it's an on/off button but detracts from the joy of a proper manual one has to learn and master), the silly looking dials, the forgettable and barely audible aural experience (muted exhausts, bland engine note) and the feeling of a big, unwieldy car size wise. i'll admit tt for its msrp, it's a lot of car for the money. however, i definitely understood why i'd personally still opt to pay the m car premium.
the joy is in the details, and the m excels down to every last one have to agree tt the 370z roadster looks absolutely horrible. |

Nice pics!
I had a 2003 G35 coupe with the Brembo brakes. It was such a great car to me for over 80k miles. My wife has a Infiniti FX35 and that V6 has been great too (actually the whole car, 113k miles and no problems). When I started shopping I was positive I was going to get a 370Z roadster. I couldn't find a used one in my budget and when I sat in the coupe I felt like a "fat guy in a little suit". The dials on the center stack and the plasticky dashboard were a turn off. In the end my used Z4 was a perfect fit and I'm happy. Congrats and welcome to the family! |

Nice car!! Great mini review. I agree that the 370z is a great value for the amount of performance compared to the z4m's MSRP. However, I think the z4m at today's prices is a great performance value as well. I'm almost certain you purchased the z4m at a price cheaper than a new 370z convertible---and as you said, smoother engine, better materials...etc. Can't be beat!

The car looks great!
What size tires are you running on the rear? Maybe the image just makes them look wide!

congrats! also +1 on horrible look for 370 roadster, 350 roadster looked disgusting imo too but the 370 coupe looks amazing, not quite as smooth as our M's but still they have a nice design
may i ask why you didnt consider the coupes?

He said he was "ready for a convertible" and I can understand why as it looks like he is near the coast of SC with the palm trees in the photos... Perfect locale for a 'vert.

Awesome color! You may want to paint or buy a set of grills that color match your ride. I did, and I like the "no chrome" effect.
Also, I have been thinking of changing out the mesh wind deflector between the roll bars for plexiglass. Very clean.
