Battery

Quick question, I'm going away for 5 weeks, should I disconnect my battery? or will it be ok when I get back?

Thanks

Battery Tender is your friend because it will keep your battery alive AND it will save you from having to reprogram your windows if/when you disconnect the battery.

Battery tender, or get a cheap one from walmart; most people will bash walmart-anything, but I think it'll be ok for 5 weeks. I use a walmart tender every few weeks of daily driving short 8 minute trips to top off the battery.

Right on with most above...why even chance it. 5 weeks is probably OK..but I would not. I am away a lot, and the battery tender is simply the best insurance you can get for a batt. If you can afford the car, you can afford the tender. Ahhh, sweet the price of peace.

The smallest of motorcycle battery maintainers is around $40. Cyclegear had this one on sale for $18 on Black Friday.

It will recharge a battery over several hours and maintain a battery for indefintely. I'd suggest hooking up directly to your battery. The ones that connect through your cigarette socket seem sketchy.

Yup, was surprised too. Even checked the voltage before I first started it...just a tad below 14V

Now this is a 1 yr old battery mind you and was stored in a heated garage this time. The previous died while in cold(er) storage last year while a battery tender was in use. BTW, I didn't have to have to reset anything at the dealership, the car "relearned" during the 50 mile drive home

Free if you are still in the warranty period. Upwards of 150+ from the dealer I think. Just go to sams club and get a comparable sized battery for much cheaper. It does what it's supposed to do.

how does the car determine when to go into transport mode ? ie if i swap the battery, would the computer go into transport mode ? ie if i get it reset again, and swap the battery after, would i need to go to bmw to get it after ?
