Would you still have to source the Alpine KC420i unit for it to work? I did some googling didn't see any.

Yes, you do still need it.

I did. You probably had trouble due to the fact it is called a KCA-420i.

There are plenty around.

Thanks Broker, got a lot more hits! Still having a bit of trouble sourcing one though. It looks like you'll also need a Scosche passPORT so it works with an iPhone 5.

SO the Alpine unit is a cable that costs around $20 or so with shipping. So, can I use that to connect an IPod? Is anything else needed?

Perhaps I can stop yodelling soon!

No the alpine unit is a whole box, that cost 100 when new, but has been discontinued for a while now.

Edit: the $20 passPORT adapter is so it charges your new iPhone or iPod. The Alpine unit was meant for old ipod charging, so you need an adapter for new iPods/iPhones.

So, $275 for the Intravee, $100 for the Apline, plus $150 for an iPod? Around $500 in total then?

I think I'll pass.

It's really rather meant for peeps who already have the iPod or iPhone.

If you already have an iPod, and do not have a 'screen', then give the Dice Silverline a go...I picked up the Silverline DUO for under $150.

Looks like there's 5 Alpine units on ebay. I also found 2 here on this site from Japan.

I'm on the fence on this GB, need to first see what my new car has (new M should arrive this week, sold my 2.5i today!), and do some thinking if I'm going to do it this way or just aux cable.

Yeah - I lived with the aux cable for a while, but it is garbage, plus I like the ability to run everything through the car and using Nav screen

Had anybody had both the Dice unit and the Intravee unit? How do they compare? Pros/cons of each?

FYI - to those on the list... Both me and The Broker have gone and procured our own intravees. So, I am bowing out of this quest.

Here is the list as it stands if anyone wants to pick up the mission:

1. boondocksaint
2. Shakib
3. ShakyDog

I could potentially go back on the list if this works in my wife's 2005 530i, but I do not know.

good luck

You asked if anyone has used both, this guy has. At the end of the 2nd video he gives details of how you can contact him and ask him questions. Is that not helpful?

Just FYI I was the proponent of this post until I got my own intravee another way.

Maybe you could pick up the reigns to get this done for those who want it.

I am officially signing off this thread. good luck to all.
