Leather Z removal
Looking for a bit of guidance.. Picked up a beautiful '06 Z4MR just a few weeks back.
I can't make up my mind if I like the leather Z armrest that came with the car. So I'm considering taking it out. Is the armrest screwed in or just held in place with double sided tape? Can I just start lifting it to come off? |

For a center armrest, if you have carbon leather trim, I don't recommend removing the armrest.

Second this. The armrest that came in my M tore the carbon leather apart. Fortunately I was replacing the trim anyway.

Congrats on the car. I have one in my car and would not be without it, though I'm tall so it doesn't get in my way. I know for shorter people, it can get in the way when shifting. However, it you really want to remove it, use a heat gun on a low, far way from the taped area so soften the glue, then use some dental floss to saw through the double sided tape. I believe it's at the 4 corners.

+1 on leaving the armrest in place.
Or at least living with it for a while. If you must remove it, I would make my first attempt on a very hot day. Work one corner at a time. Goo Be Gone is excellent at loosening adhesive without damage. |

I just purchased the ZHP knob, will test and see. I'm 6' tall but sometimes the armrest is in the way.
It's a weekend car so it comes out for a good spirited Saturday morning fun. I'll keep you guys updated |

I'm 5ft 7. I have the leather z armrest, zhp knob AND rogue shifter and I have never had a problem shifting. I was really nervous when I ordered it but there is no way I would ever get rid of it now.

It's good it worked for you with the shorter ZHP knob. It's hit or miss with the Leather Z armrest depending on the person.
I went with the M5 shift knob. Very close the the ZHP but with LED lighting and much nicer leather boot than stock. Last edited by pungo; 08-11-2017 at 09:29 PM.. |

M5 shift knob is what I would like to do to my.
Looks great with the M5 leather trim. I did the M performance one with the alcantara trim to my Roadster and love it a lot. But I wanna try something different on the Coupe. |
