I'll start working on that then.
Nobody knows for sure, it is all speculation at this point. Personally I would probably like it better if they kept the Z NA myself.

I was doing full drifts in an empty parking lot. Car is definately a gem, plenty of power, amazing handling. But would I trade in my Z4 for it? Probably not. There's something about a car with a short wheelbase, drop top, and good power to weight ratio. The N54TT is nothing to die for, but to each their own. I plan on pushing 350hp out of my Z4 one day...

I'd care more if the N54 owners weren't already insufferable on the 3-series boards. What my life doesn't need is endless debates about whether my Z4MC is better than some git's Z4TT.

Or how your Z4TT isn't as good because the next guy has PROceed on his/hers... which obviously makes it the fastest car in existence... duh!

Any dyno would be measuring at the wheels. You'll have to factor in drive train loss.

Agreed.
I guess at this point I still prefer the S54 to the N54tt. A family member of mine has an 08 335i coupe (6MT) and its pretty darn fast. I do enjoy driving it. Its really hard to compare the Z4M to the 335 honestly. They feel SO different. That being said I can only imagine that the Z4 will eventually be equipped with the latest and greatest powerplant. I wonder if the next generation M version will sport the V8 out of the new M3? I guess only time will tell. |

From what Ive heard and read on forums and such this will be the last model year for the Z4 anyway,
and again, "heard and read" the S54 engine in the M doesn't meet 2009 emissions regulations so there will be no 2009 M Roadster or Coupe, I believe 2008 will be the last of the Z4's and I was told by BMW that the next Z4 (or whatever its called) will be made in Germany and wont be made in SC, Ive read all this from more than one source

Yeah, the next Z will be built in Regensberg (sp?), while the Spartanburg plant builds all the Xs (X3, X5, X6, x-cetera ). I'm in the camp that believes the Z4 will stop production by 3Q2008 so the plant can't begin SAV production (some think as early as May).
I'm pretty sure the next generation Z-car will indeed have the 3.0TT and a folding hardtop, and will eventually get the E92 M3's engine. In fact, I'm betting the US market will initially have 2 Zs - 3.0 NA (255-hp) and 3.0TT (300-hp), with the M arriving for the facelift in 2012/2013. |

I'd say the Z3Ms were helped by the lack of an immediate replacement model on hand, which is what has gutted E46 M3 models. With 4-5 years to wait for the next Z*M, we might stand a chance.
Also, the Z4Ms seem to have a kind of slow-growing appeal. Initial reviews weren't great, but it's getting a lot of nice press now, 2 years after it debuted, as a characterful, less expensive alternative to other cars. This late support could generate more demand as supply decreases or stops altogether; always good news when discussing values. |

Nobody knows for sure? I know for sure.
It ain't happening on the E85/E86 platform, that's for sure. Want to know why? BMW needs to pay the EPA a huge sum of money to get each chassis/engine combination CERTIFIED. It's on the order of $100M per chassis/engine combo. Any sensible bean counter will put a giant REJECTED stamp on any notion to put the N54 in the Z4 when there's less than a full year of production/sales left, on a relatively LOW production car. You call can wish all you want for BMW to put the twin turdbo in the Z4. It's not going to happen this generation. I'll guarantee that. |

Ahhhh yesss! Another fine example of our gubbermint at work! Or they could add $25000 to the price.
"...The maximum civil penalty for a violation of this section by a manufacturer or dealer is $25,000; for any other person, $2,500. Section 203(a)(3)(B) of the Act prohibits any person from manufacturing or selling, or offering to sell, or installing, any part or component intended for use with, or as part of, any motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine where a principal effect of the part or component is to bypass, defeat, or render inoperative any device or element of design installed on or in a motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine, and where the person knows or should know that such part or component is being offered for sale or is being installed for such use. The maximum civil penalty for a violation of this section is $2,500." EPA doc

The N54 engine is putting out more HP then the S54. I own a Z4M coupe. Even though BMW rates it lower then the engine in my coupe when you read every test report on the 335 the acceleration numbers are about even with the light Z4M. If a car Dino's at 290 at the wheels you are getting 340 or more at the crank. THere have been many articles about the power of the N54 and several magazines have dyno'd the car and found it to be putting out more then 300. Don't get me wrong, I would not trade my NA S54 for a turbo N54 but the N54 is putting more HP out at the crank.
