They are also in the way when working around the car such as when detailing
Yep all this^

Bottom line; there is no perfect solution.
It depends on what features are the most important to you.

Asymmetrical lift solves the issue.

My 2 cents.
That would be my choice too if I had a taller garage, unfortunately only 8' ceiling.
Time to jack up the garage a foot.

funny thing is I debated excavating deeper when I renovated the garage last year.
I drive up a good 2 feet to get into the garage

That's the only way to go if you have a family room over the garage and then the bedrooms over the family room like I do! Probably easier to just build a new detached garage.

Actually, there is but it ain't cheap.

If you have a 2 car garage space tall enough to accommodate, install a 2 post AND a 4 post.

If you only have 1 single space, install a 4 post AND 2 rolling 4 post jack:

I went the 4 post and two rolling jacks route. No regrets.

When I was looking a came across a number of interesting options that could work in a low ceiling garage where a traditional 2 or 4 post lift just won't work.

- QuickJack - portable, 12vdc or 120vac hydraulic, about 20" lift
- EZ Car Lift - similar to the QuickJack but uses a power drill to raise and lower
- MaxJax - low rise two post lift with "portable" towers. You install threaded anchors in the floor and bolt the towers in place when needed. Requires certain minimum slab strength.
- Various scissor lifts.
