Exhaust: Electronic Butterfly Dump Valve

Hey Guys,

I've seen a couple of M3/5s with this sort of modification but I don't believe I've been able to find any Zs. First I'm wondering if anyone has found a product that could be installed on the Z4 (M) that would work and then second I'm trying to figure out of anyone has actually gone through with it. I'm not sure how such "upgrades" are perceived either but it has always been something very curious to me as you have yet another "option" on how to drive your beloved Z.

Here's an equivalent product (although I know there are nicer ones out there).

Zstig had something similar. They were for sale not too long ago.

I'm working on something similar using the oval QTP units, but integrated into some custom mufflers. I have the design and most of the parts. Looking to start fabrication soon.

I contemplated these dual outlets from varex as an easy way out, but I like custom!

Rosso,

Do you have a thread for your construction?

I am interested to see if there are any other models out there. From what it looks like though it's not a very favored option opposed to full on exhaust replacement.

No thread yet... I plan on attaching the valve tangent to the tight radius bend and put it in place of the first bend in the muffler. Essentially being able to have stock baffling and a partially bypassed baffle.

I stole the muffler pic from the stock muffler mod thread

That's really interesting to see the inside of the muffler. I'm interested to hear how this sounds although I'm not sure its' going to find the sound that I'm looking for. These mods don't seem to produce the same rasp as the xpipes which is desirable in my situation as of now... hehe.

I had one of these on my 3000GT. On a turbo car it was great having this mounted in a race pipe that replaced the cat because I would spool a lot faster. The sound was also awesome and a lot of fun. I will say though that you have to be careful playing with it because the first one i bought died after a couple months.

I have SS V1 w/ resonated section 1 and rogue x pipe coming this week. My goal is to have the ability to quiet the system significantly and still get race car noises to come out when needed.

Your set up is pretty nice execution. If I was sticking with a stock x-pipe I would have bought it!

I think the oval valves are better for taking from the side wall of the pipe.

I'd consider selling my full setup, with no stock x-pipe in return
