Confirm wheel size for 2005 Z4 3.0i Sport Package? Winter Sizes same?

I'm getting mixed answers from online, my local tire shop guy. Some are saying I should go staggered because that's what the sport package came with, etc. I don't have a manual for the car either.

Can someone confirm what my factory wheel/tire size should be on a 2005 z4 3.oi with Sport Package?

#2. Should I stay with same size for winter tire setup? Would going smaller/larger diameter help? My neighbor just returned his lease M6 and offering his winter wheels/tires for a very good price. The size is 255/45R18, will it fit on my car?

3.0 sport staggered is 225.40.18 up front and 255.35.18 in back. 255 square will not work for your car.

Not only that the tires off your neighbours M6 won't fit but the rims are a ridiculous offset for your car.

If you are going to go for 17s the tire size you most likely will want is 225/45R17.
That is the size the BMW offers for your particular model.

For those that are telling you that you should get a staggered winter setup, you should keep in mind that BMW does not sell any winter packages with staggered tire sizes for any of their cars.

Do you think 17" would be too low if the car came with 18" wheels (sport)? Should I get a set of non-staggered 18" and slap winter tires on them or a set of non-staggered 17"? Which will give better performance in NY weather?

As long as the wheels are within 3% of the overall diameter of the original rolling diameter you can run whatever size rim you want (as long as it clears the brakes, strut, fender, etc). In your case, by going down a size to 17" rims you increase the size of the tire sidewall to have the same overall diameter as before.

Your OEM size is 225/40R18 on the fronts, so by going to a 17" rim you get fatter tires to compensate for the smaller rim, therefore 225/45R17. And you maintain close to the same rolling diameter as before.

this is correct and for winter driving one prefers a thinner width and higher profile tire. the 17 winter tires will be easier to find and less expensive as well.
