cosmo has been making fairly reputable intakes for a while now, but I'm still not convinced that an open element intake gains any power or throttle response. It looks to be a good alternative to the AFE though

i found the cosmos heatshield separate for like a hundred bucks. then i just bought a k&n for like 30 bucks. just measure the size of the inlet and match it on k&n's site. some measuring in length will help too so you dont get one that is too long.

i dont think i'd trust the filter that comes with the cosmos intake anyway...

Direct from Cosmos is cheaper than ebay.

Does the intake seal to the bonnet or something? It does look extremely cheap.

yeah it has a piece of weather stripping on top that the hood rests against when it closes.

the heatshield itself isnt too horrible to look at. most of these heatshields are made of fiberglass (this is too) so they all kinda look similar.

it's def not as appealing as a gruppem or anything, but then again paying almost a grand for an intake is asinine lol

^ ah yeah. Only problem with just buying the heat shield is that the Ms MAF is intergrated in to the stock air box. So we cant just get a shield, we need something with a maf tube.

if it was $100 id try it... but its close to the same price as all of the other intakes. why take the risk. just get an AFE.

Just get a scoop. Thats my plan. BMW designed a great intake, just ram some more air into it at speed.

Unless your just looking to tweek the sound of the intake, then pick something else. I must agree, I would love to have the GruppeM Bling!

I had one on my 3.0i and took it off because it amplified the whistling noise I got at part throttle (barely noticeable with the stock airbox, and I don't think it's a vacuum leak - just an M54ism). The "heat shield" is just a molded piece of plastic. Other than that it's just a K&N cone filter. If you just want the sound of the open filter design then this will get there. The aFe/Gruppe M look much nicer under the hood for a much higher price.

For performance the stock air box seems to be the best, but this may be a good noise maker.
