M trans fluid upgrade

Years back i changed out the oem manual trans fluid in my E46 330i(still have her) for royal purple synchromax. The difference was quite amazing. Going into gear at cold temps was greatly improved. Although once warm the M coupe box is not bad, is synchromax still the preferred choice as an upgrade? I believe the former is a ZF and the latter a Getrag box.

Using the Ford Fluid, works great allows synchros to mesh as they should. Tried the Redline stuff, too thin synchros didn't like it. Not a fan of RP products due to inaccurate sheer strengths.

I have RP Syncromesh in my M and it is a definite improvement over the Redline product the PO had used.

I'll have to give the ford stuff a try next time, I hear good things about it.

Interesting… the Mustang MT-82 guys are trying other stuff than OE. Lol, even RP… so who knows. And the M3 guys swear by the BMW OE fluid and say RP is crap

Haven't changed trans fluid in the Z4 M, but I'm runing the good old ATF Dexron (III/)IV in the E46 M3 race car and it works great. Seen some run/recommend a 50/50 mix of MTF-LT2/3/4/5 and Dexron III/IV as well, to get a mix of cold temp gear changes and high temp tolerance.

Redline recommends their D4 ATF for the Z4M gearbox. I didn't like it.
